And with my opponent having a couple of minutes to make his last few moves for the time control, someone blurted out in a stage whisper "He needs to keep an eye on the clock" - to say I was deeply unimpressed would be the understatement of the century so far.
Fifteenth of February 1971 Look North Scunthorpe(no Typhoo jokes please), old lady in the market asked about decimalisation replied;
"I don't understand it, but it doesn't matter I'm going back to Halfax tomorrow."
I,was young, I laughed.

Halifax v Brighouse. Couple of old team mates, I hadn't seen for a while. Winston said he had looked forward to seeing me at Cliffe Hall earlier in the season(some people are easily pleased)
I explained because it was Mischief Night, I had gone chumping. Still can't take chumps on a bus,even with a bus pass.
Had hoped to cause a little mischief against Bill, but failed.
