Hi Everyone

By everyone I would like everyone to feedback on why you do or do not play in the monthly tournament.
The last few months has seen just a few players play which is slowly killing the event.
I wonder whether it’s because:
it’s on a Sat night

You do not like the format

It’s not challenging enough for you

Any other reasons???

Please can everyone help with some feedback

I like the 24hrs a move format best but am quite happy with the 45 minute games IF I REMEMBER! I am no good at the 10 min games(or any other for that matter) so I do not enter

To be honest I too tend to forget. I also think that maybe being a Saturday night is probably not the best of nights due to those that want to spend it with family, especially if working all week. As I have expressed before I tend to like long games and 45/15 or 10 is actually about right as opposed to short burst games which one I never get in due to low ratings but then again I tend to fall to pieces. I can understand why I don't get into the entry level- if I am representing a club and I am in a position of losing every game because I am not good enough in the first place then there's very little point in me being in it.  I often play approx 3-4 (1 hour) games a night even if they don't last that long. It takes the pressure off and gives you that chance to think and create a strategy/ plan and then have the time to re-think it through when it doesn't go to plan, which often happens. Playing long games also is more challenging and I tend to like playing much higher rating players who have more experience as you learn more and its more of a challenge. As for super long games I really 'don't get them'. I used to play a game over three of four nights with my dad when young but its not every night one can concentrate. I've noticed in my stats i tend to either lose or win a lot on the trot and the times I lose is either to a much better player or I just play for the sake of playing without heart and mind- purely out of boredom, which is not how one should play. James who got me into this club has had a long lay off but has now got his interest back so will probably join in a more matches hopefully but like me after being in front of a computer and working with intense software all day your brain actually becomes clogged up by evening. On the flip side an hour game often helps unscramble my mind of the days work and so I'm then playing on a therapeutic level. I do like to play chess for myself because I am not to bothered if I win or lose as long as I have played well. Playing for a club you have responsibility to others which then brings out the competitive side in me and you also get the camaraderie from being in a club which also makes it fun. To return some feedback that's more relevant to what you have asked I think Saturday night is probably a no-go night for most with families or those that want to go out and hence why most don't enter or do forget. I tend to get a bit confused by all the different tournaments. The best one is the one in which we play within the club but I am guilty of remembering. I believe I've only played 3 games and more to play which I want to do- I have one tomorrow night with yourself I do believe so will be showing for that. Chess has been a massive 'mind saver' during lock down and I am sure that everyone really appreciates all the work you do- we all know that.  I hope this feed back helps. I suggest all games set up for midweek at night whether matches against other teams or each other within our own. Our younger generation of players might be apt to the odd hangover on a Monday night lol having been out all weekend- we've all been there. Some of us play for fun and some play on a more serious level. I personally also find that Chess.com gets a bit clogged up at certain times and becomes a touch unstable but that's not often and their auto-generated software they use they are tweaking as I complained to them over an issue once. I often get a lag in messaging  too. The admin of the site are pretty good though and responsive. I hope I haven't gone off track lol. I am also terrible at remembering peoples real names so forgive me if I call you Peter when its Paul etc. Hope some of this helps. Kerry.

Hi Martin, I enjoy the games and the tournament.  I didn't join in the last one as it was on a Saturday and had family commitments (we popped down to the in laws near Ipswich now we were allowed to drive thst far!) If it was on a week day or Friday  it would be better for me. Yes the times are quick, but I go with that so that everyone can play alot of other club members withoutnit going on until the wee hours. Thanks for organising,  Martin

hi

been a bit busy every intention to play just gets a bit hectic here in the kozmiq household.

i do tend to favour midweek chess as it does not clash with family time or going out?

Saturday nights.

There aren't any universally good times it seems, but if you could find one, that'd be great wink.png

Saturday evenings suit me fine, I've played all of them so far and enjoyed them. Thanks for putting them on. I have busy times coming up but shall play whenever I can.

Hi -- I appreciate having a monthly tournament but recently I've simply had less time to play. I am also less motivated to play online. Saturday is not ideal but neither is any other day to be honest, at least for the time being.
