Hi Everyone By everyone I would like everyone to feedback on why you do or do not play in the monthly tournament. The last few months has seen just a few players play which is slowly killing the event. I wonder whether it’s because:it’s on a Sat night You do not like the format It’s not challenging enough for you Any other reasons??? Please can everyone help with some feedback
The competition will start from the 20 Feb 2021. Player pairing will be drawn by lots each week so you know who you have. Players need to arrange their own games, but must be agreed by the end of the 7 days. Everyone will get a turn with White and Black against each other over the coming weeks. Chess.com rules apply. Have fun

I keep buying chess books both the real paper ones and the Chessable versions but I am not sure that they are helping. Started recently Jeremy Silmans Reassess your chess - how to master chess imbalances. Has anyone else worked through the Silman books? Are their any other recommendations?
With several competitions and tournaments taking place I thought it would be a good idea for the Captains to give an update of how the teams are doing and maybe share a few highlights.

Stephen has asked me circulate this among our members. They are running a classic competition on both Chess.com and Lichess. Details below https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/iceni-live-classic-4-invitationSo far we have 16 in the chess.com secon and 9 in the lichess.org secon, see https://www.chess.com/clubs/ forum/view/iceni-live-classic-4-players-entered-so-farThe event starts tomorrow week so there is sll me to enter and it would be good to see some more players. 6 games in the 6 weeks before Easter, 45 minutes with 15 second increment, unrated on chess.com or ECF online standard rated on lichess.org.
Some of the members have asked to have a longer time limit games. It is suggested to have a knock out 60 min competition. If enough people are interested I will put together a time table and arrange the pairings. Please add you name to the forum if you are interested

In a few weeks the first season of matches will have completed. Next season looks like it might be two divisions. We will have a place in Division one, but also have an opportunity to play in Division 2 with a B team. A lot of the top Norfolk players play in the league, so with a Division 2 it might be lead to more balanced matches. In anticipation I have also opened a B team club so that the matches can be arranged more easily. However, I have left it private so playing members can discuss their thoughts more privately with other players. Please let me know your views as we have about 3 weeks before this season finishes Regards Martin

Hi All I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the member games each week. If you have any that you want to share please let me know. Please ask permission of the other club player before we amuse ourselves on their Brilliant moves or embarrassing blunders. Thanks Martin
It’s been only a couple of weeks since the club stopped playing and I am missing the games already. The great thing about playing in a club is that you get to play with really nice people. Matthew Perry is setting up the league and it looks like many of our usual opponents will be taking part. Aylesham, Wymondham, Lowestoft, Norfolk and Norwich, North Norfolk and others. I expect we will play either Monday’s or Wednesdays and these will be 15 minutes and 10 seconds increment. The details are still being agreed. If anyone else also want to be Admins or coordinators please let me know. As we get more players joining up I will organise our club games. I am sure it will be a lot of fun at a time when we all need a bit of cheering up. p.s I am not very good at quick games. Martin
First of all, here’s what Arenas are definitely NOT about: waiting for the next round to start. In an Arena, as soon as one game ends, you may opt to be paired again immediately, simply by tapping “Next Game.” There is almost no down-time! All Arenas are Open events, but the server does its best to get you a good match with as little waiting as possible! And that’s not all… You can join an Arena after it begins, and leave before it’s over — and then come back and play in it again, if you want to! However, please note, when an Arena is over, it’s OVER: All games end immediately when the Arena timer reaches 0:00. Then, when the dust settles, all that matters is who has the most points. And, of course, the Arena scoring system is exciting too — rewarding players with bonus points when they defeat multiple opponents in a row! Score Arena points as follows: Loss = +0Draw = +1Win = +22nd consecutive Win = +33rd (or greater) consecutive Win = +4 (Note: To avoid "funny business" with scoring, Arena games require you to play at least 20 moves before offering a draw, or at least 10 before resigning.) In the Arena, the pace is fast and furious, but you can come and go as you please... Play lots. Win often.
