We made a minor tweak: 3-check seems very sharp. There are possibilities of suicide checks and high potential for teaming. We upped it to 7-check to discourage that, and it's still just as much fun to play. Nice work!

I didn't know you CGA's could actually change a proposed position yourself!

Usually, we don't change anything. If the position is acceptable before the change, then sometimes we do.

Happened lots of times. Once they changed it from a NCP to a WOF

The CGA's should suggest more things, a lot of times they just say something like" this is how the Position was submitted" and don't make any changes. They used to do this better

We now have a rule against suggestions lol

It's your job to create the positions and to optimize them. We almost never change the position anymore; we sometimes tweak the rules and rarely change NCP/WOF status.

lol no it's not, our job is to evaluate

I disagree, I think your job is to do both

Good discussion @MayimChayim, @boxjellyFishchess

The CGAs are expected to evaluate and maintain the current and proposed tournaments and custom positions. If they're doing that, they're doing fine. I know I speak for myself, as well as the other admins, CGAs, and testers when I say we care about making the server the best it can be. For that reason, we are also usually able to help facilitate the creation process with NCPs, although it's not technically a job requirement - it's just something we do.

Getting back to the topic at hand, we have, in the past, made suggestions or changes to other people's submissions as we saw necessary. In general, and lately, we have more or less agreed that it's the creator's prerogative to advocate for themselves. If they want our input, they may ask for it, but out of respect for their creative process, we have stepped back how much we're willing to contribute as far as making changes or suggestions, except for in minor cases.

our job is literally "Custom Positions Tester". It's your job to optimize your position before submitting it; that's literally the whole point of the test games requirement, so we have completely stopped giving major suggestions or changes (as GraBle said). The tweaks we have made in the recent months has been pretty much limited to promotion and checks (the WOF - NCP change mentioned was actually on a position that was made by a positions tester, so it doesn't really count).

gRabLe also mentioned how we are open to giving suggestions if the authors request our opinion. This has almost never actually happened (outside of positions made by testers) since people tend to throw away their position when it is declined. ngl it's pretty disappointing that positions with lots of potential get discarded since the author decided not to fix flaws and play 15 more games, but it's supposed to be your position; therefore the position should be made by you (as grAblE has implied).
