Note

What I like the most about "opposing triads" is that by having groups of three "pawns" of the same type, we can experience the way in which they interact both between those of the same type and those of others. So we can see how "berolinas" and "soldiers" do such a good job together to attack the rival king, while "stone generals" and pawns do the same to defend ours. Though of course that doesn't mean those are the only options we have. On the other hand, I think a battle of opposing castlings is something that is always exciting and fun. I hope you like it.

Reason: The variant has a too strong initiative for the white pieces: all the diagonally moving pieces are aimed at the opponent's kingside and can also be used to attack rooks, as well as preventing the counter-play on one's kingside. Black has to be particularly careful here, as a minor mistake can prove invariably fatal and the initiative is quite hard to combat. Considering the extremely sharp placement of the pieces, there is little variety as a whole and there are some balance concerns.

I think your variant with the Alibabas was very good! happy.png

Some note on the placement, as the rooks are all lined up towards the enemy king (perhaps the king could more centralized) they create a potent attack. The pawns in front of the rooks lend to this attack as they are able to force themselves off of the board to let the rooks forward, regular pawns in these places may complicate this progress.

Also, I could look at the position and see the dragon bishops are going to clean up most of the pieces on the board, if there was only one of them it may not be the case, but with two and their positioning it is a severe advantage compared to other pieces available.
