NEW POLL: Rapid or Blitz?
https://www.chess.com/news/view/10-minute-chess-now-rapid-rated-bullet-ratings-increased
I usually play 10 min or 3 min and both are kinda blitz since 9 min 59=Blitz and 10 min used to be blitz. So blitz
I've been trying to learn and push my rating up recently and rapid is much easier to do that with, so rapid for me. Once I settle around 13-1500 I'll probably play more blitz so I can calculate faster, then move on to higher level concepts with rapid again.
Totally rapid, the blitz will make me stress of cooking. (My parents keep saying not to make me cook lol)
While the quality of play in rapid is generally on a higher level than blitz, rapid tends to be for many, including myself, the hardest time control. You have to ballance thinking a lot like in classical chess (btw I play OTB and have a good rating), and playing fast like in blitz chess. I like blitz more than rapid because of that reason and also because I know at which pace to play the whole game. Also, I like to have fun, and in blitz, it apparently seems that you have way more fun. However, rapid is way better, in my opinion, to play training games because you have time to think as many have pointed out. So, the debate about rapid vs blitz is still and always going to be there, but I tend to prefer blitz more.
Rapid values good play more than quick moves and is also closer to the standard classical time control and is generally regarded as better for improvement. The options are also greater in rapid whereas rapid ranges from 10-60 minutes while blitz is only time controls under 10 minutes. Many grandmasters also support this idea: "Blitz chess kills your ideas." – Bobby Fischer. "He who analyses blitz is stupid." – Rashid Nezhmetdinov. Kasparov went even further by saying not to play any time control below that of classical but some rapid time controls can be nearly meet to such with USCF sometimes making these time controls "Dual Rated". Rapid also increases the focus of a chess player and attention span which can translate to better work ethic and efficiency in real life situations.
Blitz chess does the opposite of this and rewards players for dubious openings such as the larsen variation of the from's gambit that will be completely stopped in a real classical game, and as a reminder, all OTB titles and major tournaments are classical and once again as a reminder, USCF allows these time controls to be dual rating meaning theoretically you have get an OTB title from purely playing rapid. Rapid is also better for improvement as both players will play better making the game not as simple because it is much less likely someone would purely hang a piece and encourages more precision and thought than blitz, overall improving your play more than blitz would.
in my humble opinion rapid be cookin
