Obviously the gimmick here is to outflank your opponent and smothered mate on 1 of 2 possible squares. I added bare piece rule because it would be pretty lame if you took all of your opponents pieces and didn't end up winning (your king isn't doing anything all game anyways). I've tested this variant about 20 times and the position and pace seems pretty balanced to me, and loads of fun! Feedback would still be really helpful though! Name suggestions are also welcome =)

Honestly, it isn't a bad idea, but a suggestion I would give is to make promotion also to a grashopper, creating a potential threat of mate in endgames.

IMO, also add:

  • Stalemate loses
  • Bare piece rule

-I considered grasshopper! The main reason I initially abstained was to keep the mechanics simple and appeal to people of all skill levels, but they could be a fun addition

-I did say I was adding Bare Piece Rule

-Actually another suggestion I got was 6th=N so that every pawn can promote and promotion plays a larger strategical role

Good idea but I would suggest doing two different promotions, knight and grasshopper and changing the knight in the square to a grasshopper, and maybe take off one of the back line knights to enforce promotion

(sorry if the first part of the message is dirty, i did copying and pasting, and each time, the result is very dirty, i am sorry)

I don't think your idea of the grasshoper intead of the knight in the coin is a good idea, because the grasshoper will easily checkmate the opponent king if you succed to eliminate the pawn just in front of the king; but i sufggest to put a general.


Apart from that, i like the concept, but i think you should add play for mate because the enjoy is not eat but checkmate ( the other solution is eliminate all pieces exept the king, we shouldn't confuse this way to win and eat pieces to get points )(and carrful: play for mate is bad for 3 or 4 players game, because, is always the first who checkmate win, and not the ultime survivant, exept if is the enjoy of the game), and also more rules to make the game more varied, like sideways.

After the merge, the default is to just mate, not points.

even p4m is different if one player mates both last players he wins even if he didnt get the first mate. 2p is p4m by default

Green/Yellow has a clear advantage over Red and Blue, with blue being the worst. There isn't any strategic placement to the pieces either.
