strong, as the pieces are more powerful on the bigger board, and rooks combine abilities with cannons (jump spell, with cooldowns to prevent abuse of this feature), even though all the other meanings could work... 强抢枪墙 (strong steal gun wall)

Steel (as in the metal) is Tie, 铁. 抢 is steal as in the verb.

That's nice to know. Is shuffling an issue here?

In the beginning, players can chose which king is royal and which king is not. The royalty is hidden from the opponent. You can only reveal the royal king once it has been captured. The first player to capture the royal king wins. I name this "The River". Is the starting setup good?

If it weren't for chess.com limitations, all pieces except the archbishop, chancellor, king and queen will promote Ideas for promotion listed below.

Pawn = King

Knight = General

Bishop = Dragon Horse

Rook = Dragon King

But for now, the pawns may promote to whatever they wish, including a king.

choosing royal king and revealing it is another game mechanic that is not within the limitations of the current tools we have on the variants server

but i remember @Green_Sleeves started a club called "Ahab Chess" which has a similar idea, it kind of died out though

Shuffling is a potential problem in my new "Qiang-Xiangqi" variant.

shuffling is fine as long as either player has the ability to make reasonable progress by doing so

the game you linked doesn't seem to relate to the shuffling problem so i'm not sure what you're getting at exactly

This is my first custom variant that I call Great Horde. It's basically horde but on a larger board and the fairy pawns. Blacks goal is to invade whites flanks, and White's goal is to survive till the end and checkmate black by promoting pawns.

Rules-

  • No en passant
  • Promotes to Chancellor (Rook/Knight),Archbishop (Bishop/knight) and the Knig/knight

So What do you guys think of this variant?

i would consider checking the evaluation with fairy stockfish but from first looks it feels somewhat advantageous for white

A quick prototype of Instability

Gamerules: Bare piece, taboo, game of points, stalemated player loses, promotion is BKN

Any suggestions?

i mean promotion is kinda useless cuz there is no pawns

looks interesting, i've never seen something like this before

but yeah if there are no pawns why is there promotion lol just disable it

I have an idea for a new variant. It's called "Jester's Chess". It adds a new piece, the Jester...

lol i'm starting to recognize a pattern with your ideas

i find them interesting but they're very far from feasible with regards to implementation in the server

The River: The Pre-release

This is a Shogi-like variant, except that pawns are now normal, No drop rule, and that there are two unorthodox pieces (Chancellor and Archbishop). 8x8 board, Black moves first.

From the last setup, the board has been reverted to 8x8 (It was 10x10 before) and the Alibaba has been removed and replaced with faster, more powerful pieces. Castling is allowed with the single rook (king moves two spaces and the rook follows).

Checkmate the royal king to win. (Kingside)

Rules: Bare piece rule

The stalemated player loses

Pawns promote to Kings

I wonder if this is good enough to be accepted, any suggestions are welcome.

Actually, none of my testing games presented the shuffling problem so far. But it could still be a potential problem.

I only posted the game just so that you can quickly analyse the position.

An Elimination Chess variant (giveaway + bare piece rule) + regicide. Pawns promote on the third rank (FGISW)

idk what to name this

edit: I just realized it's a forced win for red

New and updated version of Great Horde

Changes-

  • Added extra row of pawns for black
  • Replaced first rom of pawns with Wazirs and Seargents
  • Created weakness in white pawn structure to make strategies for Black.

I also tested it with the Futer and the position is balanced.

So what do you think?

VishTheFish771

Thanks. Would you play it if it was a variant?

VishTheFish771

Also some changes I have in mind-

  • Torpedo (Livens up the game a bit)
  • Active en passant?
  • Sideways?
  • Any capture?(Will give White a possible advantage)

Any other suggestions?

VishTheFish771

Sure

VishTheFish771

Anyone up for playing it?

I have improved my variant, "The River". Now all pawns are protected, and there are much less pins / sneaky attacks that could annoy new players. By the way, Leapers on the left and Non-leapers on the right. Cool. Now I just need some games with it and its good to go as a variant.
