After thinking a bit about how generic Hypercourier Chess (my Courier Chess improvement variant) is, I decided to add a twist to it. No more 12x8 board (Reduced to 10x8). But at the same time, more pieces. No more Queens, because the Queen is too powerful (especially in Fog of War). Couriers regain their throne once again, since they (and the rooks) are the ONLY long range pieces in the board. Pawns may promote to a Courier (Bishop in modern chess), Rook or King. Castling is allowed.
This will probably not be known as a 'Courier Chess improvement' anymore but I have some ideas for the name like The River: II or The Dark Forest.
I think this is a major improvement over the standard-stale chess starting setup. What are your opinions?
Yep, Fog of War seems to be the fix to the lack of a strategic difference. About 7 people played this variant in a small timespan today! I'll most probably release this NCV into variants.world tommorow.
