New variant idea: Royal Randomness
No, if it’s not something that can’t be implemented by the current game rules or is a suggestion then it shouldn’t go there
Where should I put custom gamerule suggestions such as No Backward Moves and Forced Capture for specific pieces?

or you can just make it all pawns and throw in Giveaway.
In this variant, the board would be set up normally. However, it randomly selects a piece that needs to be checkmated in order to win the game. Only you know which piece is the royal one.
what if your piece is the queen and their's is the pawn, how would you balance that?
I have had ideas for variants before that would incorporate some of these rules. I think that corresponding sets of royals should be chosen (like h-pawns for both sides), and that overpowered pieces cannot be royal.

what are "overpowered pieces"
Pieces that cannot easily be trapped in middlegame or endgame settings, mainly queens and rooks, without limited checks.

That sounds fun, though what if the piece was a pawn ![]()
During ICC days there used to be a variant named Two Kings, where one of the kings were royal and it could change depending which were closest to the square a1.
