I've k only played OTB like 10 times.
OTB classical
has anyone played it? Not like 30 minute stuff- I mean world chess championship time control. My personal longest is a seven hour win against my grandpa with white, as well as a 6 hour 52 minute draw as black. what about you guys?
Yep I’ve played it
2 hours with a 30 second increment (when I was at Nationals) which is about as long as they play in top level
7 hours? Your poor grandpa! Just sounds excessive imo, but ig if you two agreed on it then it makes sense (kinda)
I have played. 90 minutes + 30 second increment. I played 10 games of this in a big tournament. The best of this is that I was lucky to meet some Grandmasters like Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu and the rising ucrainian star Samunenkov Ihor.
My family plays OTB and we just moved pretty quickly. Probably my longest was like a 2 hour game against my Dad and won

Wow
Nisipeanu is cool
i met the coolest bullet player at Nationals (the one, the only, Andrew Tang)

144 moves tho.
2 hours with a 30 second increment? Why not just have no timer?
Cuz classical OTB always has a clock
no ‘timer’ is not necessarily classical

I’m saying that that timer is so high, and the increment so high, that many players play as if there is no timer, similar to Kramnik saying “Bullet is everybody moving and hitting the clock as fast as they can, so why is there even a chessboard?”

high time control still needs a clock though, or else people (like elders maybe) would take like a consistent 20 minutes per move
