petition for adding the cannon fairy piece

I've just realized there is no piece for the letter U, we should add a fairy piece. cannon is the piece i think makes most sense. it moves like a rook but captures only if there is exactly one piece or wall in between the cannon and the victim. if you have a better piece idea, just tell

So... Like a grasshopper, but without diagonal moves?

Avatar of TheUltraTrap

no, because it can move more away from the middle piece, not necessarily at the square immediately behind. i will try making a diagram

Hmmm.... How much do you think this piece would be valued?

Lets say the rook is a cannon. it can move to a yellow square, capture in a red square and cannot capture/check green squares.

5 points. as much as the rook

It seems more powerful than a rook on such a large board. Maybe 7. But, I do think it would be good to have a useful fairy piece other then the knight variations.

How about Knight Rider, it is a powerful piece

actually the problem is that the cannon cannot capture in yellow squares. it can only move to them, making it a weakness for pieces reaching close. its definitively more powerful than grasshopper but no checks without self-exposal. it also only gets jump for captures. it might be chaotic because players could put a piece between the cannon and other piece to make that piece get captured

Cannon = Knight = 3 points, although depends on the position

We already have it.

good point sam. depends on the position should be in large text XD. i just think it should be 5 because it is definitively better than grasshopper, which is worth 3. what about 4?

I’d say it’s more close to a bishop on such a large board, and would be even more powerful in Teams (though it will never get added...)

Avatar of playnmake

It should be worth 3, because it is like, 10x more vulnerable than the rook.

If the White Rook is a Cannon, Black is checkmated

and bishops are worth 5 points. the board size makes it so that it gains power. once it captures it comes out of the corners and starts attacking.  imagine 8pc. btw knight and bishop positions have to be switched or there will be captures on the first move (on "a2" and "h2" corners)

Actually cannon weaker than knight

WHY??? this cannon is a very good idea(its still not getting added...) but it would be way better than knight on a 4pc board.(it would be about as powerful as a rook, all you would have to do is put it behind a pawn.
