We used to have dogs, cats, ducks, budgies, pigs, guinea pigs, chickens, but not at the same time.

I forgot yesterday to mention the sheep!

Budgerigars. I forgot they're also called parakeets. Used to keep quite a number of them - I used to dream they chase wild sparrows away. Aside from dogs, the strongest bite I ever felt.

The problem I have with dogs is when they're thrown poisined food! Can they be trained to avoid them, Chief?

Sadie Hawkins day comes from an old comic strip in the 30's,Lil Abner. She was  a homely girl from dogpatch,who her father was afraid she would never get married.Give a piece of meat to a dog and he most likely will eat it.

Yea, my constant problem, I suspect at least 2 of our dogs were poisoned.

How often do you bathe the dogs, Chief?

Poor Sadie, the dogs pretty much bathe themselves,they have access to a stream and pond on the property. I am sorry to hear about your dogs.

Pitiful, really. I'm thinking of feeding a dog at dinnertime until he can't eat anymore; that way, he might not be able to take in much poison till the morning.

You eat rabbit, Chief? We used to keep some, but they just kept on multiplying; we couldn't scrounge enough food for them

It would be hard filling a dog up,they will continue to eat. They certainly have a hollow stomach. Rabbits are excellent food. But they are rapid producers. I think it is the worse animal to process they squeal like babies,so I gave up raising them.

Maybe rabbit meat is the answer to world hunger!

On a related tack - how did it come to be that the Donkey and the Elephant become symbols of American parties?

The system would never allow it,about the rabbits. If you were allowed to raise most of your food,it would be much more healthy for you and then at least you would know what you were eating. The simple answer to world hunger is to get rid of the politics and corporations that are strangling the food supplies. The waste of food alone in this country is a sin,literally tons of food here is thrown away every day. The present administration has retained the job so he will continue with his socialist programs. The so called democracy we have here has been hijacked and slowly replaced in front of everybodys eyes. I will answer the question about the donkey and elephant in a later thread.

Ok, Chief; we here now brace for closure of call centers which employ so many of our younger people. So near-sighted. Bad busines for both us and the US.

I preferred Romney, with profit for every hardworking person.

I think that would have been the better judgement call to start boosting the economies worldwide. Everything is so interconnected today. This country is in need of an entrepenuer not a politician.

So what would be the best way to stuff a turkey? I am thinking pizza and ice cream.

Now can you tell of the origins of the Elephant and Donkey symbols?

Bokek, all you have to do is Google 'republican democrat party symbols' and you will find out. It's easier than me explaining.

The symbol was created and the organization in the 1800s. it is the old Federalist party. The donkey is actually a jackass. It actually says a lot about the party! I like the oregano garlic idea!

Well, most anything could be google nowadays; but wouldn't we prefer to be taught by friends?

And thanks, Chief; but isn't 'jackass" kind of derogatory? HERE, we never had animal symbols. In the 1800's there were the (translated) JOINING Party and the CELEBRATE Party. One pretty much murdered members of the other. Maybe that's our version of animals. 

Back to pets. There's a fish in our aquarium - loke a parrot fish but only one color. Years ago, I bought a pair; they died. Again I bought, again thery died. And again, and again. But of the latest pair, the female survived; four years onward and she's going strong. Does anyone know how long her kind of fresh water fish can survive?
