Right now rape and murder each merit life imprisonment, Chief. There was never news of repentance nor of formal charges.

It is a pain our intelligentsia bears in their hearts.

I've not heard of any other story where revolutionaries turned on their own.

cladclan

Life imprisoment means job security for those involved. It is the same here the laws are for the protection of the guilty as well as paychecks for all. A more righteous way for the individuals who are involved in these crimes is death.  But oh no there would go the gravy train.

History does weave grotesque stories, Chief.

Now to a lighter topic, Chief. Are there still many squirrels in the US and UK? There is a squirrel scampering around here. Not ours, nor our neighbor's. We have grown fond of it, but as nobody claims to own it, one day someone may shoot it down or get lucky with a slingshot? What can we do to prevent it from damaging too much fruit?

gbrown057

In the UK there are 2 types, grey and red. The reds are smaller, rarer and indigenous. The greys are very common. Regarding the fruit, I don't think you can outwit it!

cladclan

That is correct same here greys and reds. They are certainly not rare here, they are everywhere and can be quite destructive if not kept in check. I think Gordon is correct they would be hard to keep under control we have a young cat here who occasionally catches one and makes a meal out of it. I find that interesting because she wears a bell to warn the birds of her presence.

bokek

I haven't yet determined the creature's color; I'm just so amazed it is here in the tropics, and survived strong typhoons and downpours!

None of our cats can seem to reach it.

I wonder if it treats the rats as buddies or enemies. If they're buddies, both are candidates for an airgun session.

cladclan

Well it is a rodent with fur. Are there any more of them? And how did it get there? Are squirrels part of the Phillipines? Ah so comes the demise of the cute little squirrel!

bokek

We have no idea how many there are, Chief. We only know one scampers around often. On branches, above fences.

A friend brought in a big kitten this morning. If it stays, I may not have to get that air rifle; and we may see less rats soon without endangering the squirrel

cladclan

That is an excellent idea the cat should work,I dont know if it will work on the rats. But good luck with that!

bokek

Aw, the cat walked out after a couple of meals, Chief. Again eyeing my piggy bank for that air rifle.

Or, I wonder if scarecrow works on rats?

cladclan

No I dont think a scarecrow would work. Most of them are nocturnal anyways. I still say the terrier woul work the best,so the $200.00 would be well spent. I guess the not funny part would be that attorneys in this country charge you at least $200.00 an hour for their services. And they say life is not fair!

bokek

Tell you what, Chief. When I learned that a greenhorn lawyer in the States earns the equivalent of 2 million pesos a year, I lost interest in busting my ass for 1/4 that sum. I guess I expect better after having paid my dues - completed study, hotshot litigation greenhorn, deep strategist, chief of opinion, oral argument veteran, and then some.

Now I work for myself, set my own fees. I reversed the rule "no work, no pay". But generally I charge only when I have to read, travel, or write. Truth to tell the past couple of years I gave advise to people which saved them maybe US50,000 dollars, and I got nada. I'd give you advise, too, Chief, if you need any.

Hmm, now back to pets - maybe a swift 15-pounder dog could do the trick. Who among my friends could I cajole for a dog like that?

gbrown057

Big dogs don't make good rat catchers, Bokek. Need to be able to get into small spaces and fight.

cladclan

Ok Bokek back to the dogs, once again the terrier was a dog that was bred for going into small holes. Gordon is right the dog needs to get into their nests and destroy them, this is another creature that breeds like rabbits. They need to be destroyed they breed like wildfire. I will look out for some of them here and let you know. I agree about the work situation I have tried to always be a nice guy and get things that people want lots of times I get stuck with the product and a good portion of it is things I dont like to eat so they end up being fed to the animals. A greater portion of people today dont seem to appreciate things like they did in the 50's.

Listening to American Beauty now, somehow helps raise my spirits.

On little dogs, I never got the hang of living with a small dog. A friend's family used to breed Spitzes, never sought to own one.

Majority of our dogs have been 20 to 60 pounders; used to take pride in my gang of dogs being top on our street. Don't remember having rat problem then.

Can't handle a pack of dogs like I used to; maybe a hardy little dog - but not a spitz.

As for the right clients - "customers" - I strive to always be tip-top; I'm banking on the motto in Kevin Costner's film - 'If you build it, they will come'

cladclan

Ah yes American Beauty, just one of the albums that will get you through life. However to get the real effect of this music you need to get some live music that they did. A studio album that they did is called "Live Dead". This will get you a little more insight. I swear by it these guys got me through life!

bokek

I hope someone gives me a ratter puppy for Christmas, Chief.

I did a quick survey of top albums of the late 60's, Chief. One of them is American Beauty. Right there with the mix of Beatles, Zappa, etc. albums. It does have a distinct charm. Now I hunt for 'Live Dead'. What a title! Reminds of a cruel monicker high school classmates gave a girl - 'Pretty Ugly'! Just real mean. But looking back, really funny

cladclan

Ah yes superficial high school! The poor girl I hope she did not let them get the best of her,a lot of clowns I went to school with basically were the same way,I always felt sorry for the people they picked on. Befriended a few to show them that all was not lost! Back to the Dead, this "Live Dead" album was recorded live on the streets at Haight&Asbury corner. This was a free concert for the hippies who were there. If you like the live sound which is really where it was at there are a lot more of such. Let me know what you think?

bokek

Aw! Searched for 'Dead Live" Chief. No wonder none came up!

Live albums, I liked an old one by Harry Belafonte; and recently one by Herman's Hermits. Now will try to sample 'Live Dead".

The pipe's been fixed, but still wishing very hard for a puppy

cladclan

Yes Bokek "Live Dead" is what it is called it is a two album set. played live in the 60's. Who fixed the pipes you? Ah the continuing of the dog saga, one can hope and pray that you find one soon, till then get some glue traps in pad form they work pretty good but when I used them in the past the rats were stuck but still alive so I had to use an ingenious tool caled a hammer and beat them in the head till dead. I hope you are not eating while you are reading this!
