Yes, I missed that - the Welsh are people of Wales. So the Celts are a more complicated topic, and gets me curious how the Boston Celtics, with their leaf (shamrock?) are connected to the Celts.

And I think there is something to whisky. It's cleaner so maybe I could shake off this hangover within 16 hours. I made it a point to show my drinking buddy the right spelling - it was right there on the box

And back to pets - my buddy was telling me of a toy breed b*tch so upset by exploding firecrackers that she gave birth prematurely - stillbirths, Poor puppies

Boston was one of the areas into which the Irish immigrated during the 19th and early 20th centuries, so the culture of the area was heavily influenced by them. So this was reflected in the city's basketball team ( and it is a shamrock).

Gordon, pray inform us if there's such a thing as my perceived venerable British custom of having special time for drinking tea. Pet custom?

Many people have tea with breakfast. I have coffee. Others have a tea break mid morning or mid afternoon. The traditional tea time was about 5pm, but those days have gone I think.

Is the tea a caffeinated black tea, Gorden?

Avatar of gbrown057

All different sorts, NMC (what's your real name?) Herbal teas are also popular, but traditional Indian tea is the norm. So I suppose it is caffeinated.

I was just looking at the levels of caffeine in our favorite drinks...Coffee definately having the most at 95-200 mg per 8 oz. cup.  Typical black teas has 61 mg per 8 oz. cup.  Soft drinks like Coke, 53 mg. and Mountain Dew, known for its caffeine fix has 55 mg.  Energy drinks now quite popular in the US, have 80 mg. per 12 oz....so that is compareable to coffee.  I vote for coffee, and herb teas at night.  The N in NMC stands for Nicole, Gordon!

I have 1 cup of strong filter coffee when I waken, and no other caffeine drinks ever. Can't drink coke etc, due to diabetes.

I drink much more...2-3 cups in the morning, one at noon or so and one after dinner.  Maybe too much...when i was pregnant, i stopped coffee and went through 2 weeks of terrible headaches.  After that, i felt great...more energy than ever.  But old habits die hard.  So Gordon, maybe you drink lots of water?

Avatar of gbrown057

Yes, quite a lot. I actually like cold tap water, and it's free (more or less).

That's good...keeps you healthy!  I should drink more...

Coffee is supposed to have antioxidants in it, and be good for you. Even helps to ward off alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease.

What's your real name, Con Plan?

I take coffee just after waking up, and just before sleeping; and lots in between.

I like tea but sometimes avoid that 'sappy' feeling after

Bokek, what do you mean, "sappy'?

Avatar of NMCthehater

Conflagration_Planet...did you get a new coffee maker?

Avatar of Conflagration_Planet

Yep. Mr. Coffee with a thermal carafe.

Avatar of bokek

'Sappy', somehow sticky feeling like when you drink red wine, then lightly grind your teeth - you know

As to thermal containers, I'm also interested; not so much to keep coffee warm but to keep beer cold. Does anyone have experience with those things which wrap around the beer mug to keep the temperature?
