Pieces don't drop into squares and lock in move

I'v been having trouble the last few days when playing blitz games that requires me to refresh the browser in order to make a move. Basically the pieces won't lock into place and just hover around the board when i move the mouse , causing me to refresh the browser.

This might happen randomly once every few games.

It has also has happened on different machines I use. Very annoying when playing bullet games or low clock times.

Chrome is the browser used.

Happens to me too. But its only the move after I promote a pawn to another piece (any piece)

I've seen this too, but not only after promoting a pawn as Typewriter44 mentioned.  That said, maybe that's a clue!  I use the pre-move setting.  I've seen this on desktop chrome (on windows) and mobile chrome in desktop mode (android pixel 2)

Is this happening in standard chess? I've had this kind of thing happening to me when I was trying to drop pieces in crazyhouse. 

When it happens to me, I can usually left click off the board and the piece will unlock from cursor. 

Do you happen to notice if this typically happens when you are already holding a piece you expect to move while waiting for your opponent to  move? That seemed to be teh trigger for me.

I created a bug report about this a couple days ago, with a video of it happening and an (unconventional) means to reproduce the bug.
