Of all the places I've checked so far, and there have been a few, 81dojo ( http://81dojo.com )is definitely the best of them. By far.

Great pieces, both Japanese and westernized pieces, and better analysis and replay capabilities than on other servers (well, those hardly exist on other Shogi servers...)

Checked so far - playok, shogidojo, and a few other sites which shouldn't probably be used by anyone... 

Playok is nice, but lacks any aditional functionality other than playing (no replayability and analysis), less convenient graphics, and is just a little bit... underdeveloped.

Shogi dojo has some  strong opponents, but still lacks a lot of features which makes playing on the site comfortable, intuitive, and fun.

While they are both ok sites, 81dojo is definitely better in my opinion

concerning the comment about inability to replay games on playok...you have to choose "games" on your account info to review games

anyone know of over the board games in nyc? 

Hi...I just happened upon this post, and I realize it's a few years old, but if any of you guys are in New York City and want to play shogi in person you can. The New York Shogi club meets every Wednesday from 6-11pm in Manhattan. We had been meeting at Ronin Bar and Grill on 46th street, but they are relocating to a smaller venue so we are in search of another Japanese restaurant to patronize. If anyone wants to join the club email me @ jaa375@gmail.com

Eventually we will find a place and start meeting again. There are all levels of players, the highest being 5 dan I believe. Occasionally semi pro players will visit from Japan too, and play a few guys at a time. The shogi club does collect dues so it's not completely free. They are only collected twice a year January and June I believe. And the cost is 40 dollars. The dues go toward inviting the pro players I believe. But if you just came a few times to check it out you wouldn't have to pay anything.  

I visited 81shogi.com on my android device, but it says that "A plugin is needed to display this content." I tapped on it, but it didn't take me anywhere. Anyone know what the plugin could be?
