Please chess.com! Call this by its correct name, Correspondence Chess

Correspondence chess has been around for ages. 

ICCF: International Correspondence Chess Federation.

ICCF sponsors the World Correspondence Chess Championship, and has since the 1950s! ICCF is recognized as a "cousin", of sorts, to the World's Chess Championship! (Magnus).

There have been two American World's Correspondence Chess Champions, Hans Berliner, and Viktor Palciauskus.

There is no such thing as a World's Daily Chess Champion

Every other online chess organization which offers Correspondence Chess calls it by its correct name.

The internet changed Correspondence chess forever by taking the post office out of the equation. I'm from an era where it took 9 months to 2 years to finish most games. I teach how to play Correspondence chess in ways to improve your play in all areas. Online Correspondence Chess is not a substitute for a Live game, and many people play blitz speed hoping to finish quickly. Go to Live Chess if you want that!

Nah correspondence chess sounds boring

All official "correspondence chess" events allow engine assistance, don't they?

I find it hardly ever productive to dispute over terms, but in this case my feeling is that calling chess-com's "daily chess" differently than "correspondence chess" has a point.

I concur with using Correspondence Chess instead of Daily Chess. If you want a fast game then you should jump into the live server and challenge someone or support your local chess club and join in for over the board games.

The fact that correspondence chess takes months and daily chess only days illustrates that it is different. Also, does correspondence chess have time limits? if not, another very significant difference. Additionally, I can imagine that in correspondence chess, the people correspond, i.e. communicate more with each move. That is, I wouldn't expect to receive a letter in the mail with only something like: Nf3. without any other words of communication. That is, correspondence implies communication, while daily chess does not. As such, correspondence chess is significantly different. Thus, the name daily chess is an appropriate and an accurate description of what we are doing here. 

Nevertheless, it is an interesting idea that is underline that I have to now push a button label post, to send this mail, which is not a piece of mail at all. #signsofthetimes

Agree! 1. There is no correspondence involved. 2.Engines are not allowed. 3.The time schedule is different: In correspondence chess normally you will have x days to y moves, while in daily you will have e.g. 2-3 days to each move (and saved time cannot be used at a later moment)..

Concur. Any change that could make members believe that engine use is acceptable should not be considered. This is NOT correspondence chess. No engines allowed.

Daily Chess is more accurate and more concise. I well remember discussions from years back about renaming what was then called "Online Chess" (a real misnomer, since both Daily and Live are online!).

Now that we have the name Daily Chess, I would prefer nobody be lobbying for a change. "Daily Chess" is perfect.

Please do not call it correspondence chess. There are different parameters online. Leave that label in the 20th century when we used snail mail.

I agree they're two totally different formats. So I guess the real question is why does he want to change the name of Daily Chess to something it's not. Which is Correspondence Chess

I think the Chess.com creators can call it by whatever dog gone name they choose!  So there! 

It is good to clarify the difference between daily and live chess. Some people play daily chess here but if they could play a game in one day they wouldn't say no I guess! It's slow, we agree, but that's the principle of this cadence. You can play several games at the same time, however. I like this pace because it saves me from making blunders that I would do in Blitz. In addition I produce the most beautiful game considering the almost unlimited time.

When it existed under the reliance of the post office, it was closely tied to many national correspondence organizations. Their members knew how to derive the maximum benefits from it. When it transitioned to the internet, those organization did as well, and their members knew how to continue. Sites like chess.com, and others offered it, but the members here tried it their way, not having the best guidance. As noted, Correspondence Chess is an incredible learning tool.
