An opponent of mine uses the vacation feature in an unusual way, and I would like to know the opinion of chess players on whether this would constitute a lack of fair play. My opponent is in an inferior position, and after the 3-day time limit expires, he triggers vacation. Then when he wants to play the other games, he takes a vacation, executes the other moves from the other games and quickly puts the vacation back on, not playing the game with me and, I believe, with other opponents who must be in a bad position. Wouldn't that be a distortion of the vacation? Wouldn't it be the case for chess.com to rethink the use and frequency with which this resource can be used? Only on one day did my opponent activate and deactivate the vacation in three situations to execute moves from other games, without executing the moves from the games in which time was running out. The worst part is that when you deactivate vacations you still get about 2 hours, unless I'm mistaken. And so it continues indefinitely. I believe it is a valid suggestion for chess.com to think about improving the correct use of this resource.

A nice (optional) feature/setting for correspondence games would be having a secondary time control. So the primary time control is: how many days (e.g 3) you have to play the move and then a secondary time control limit per move (e.g 15min or 2 hours, etc). So in the e.g you have 3 days to play your move but only 15min thinking time per move.(While you have the board position open/active in front of you the timer counts down your time.) This would stop big asymmetries of play time being a factor in games... e.g 1 person thinks for 10min per move -- another player 1 hour. It would be crucial for correspondence tournaments.

The former world champion Garry Kasparov will be among the competitors in an online Nations Cup, a new chess competition featuring six teams of four players, Fide, the world chess federation, announced on Tuesday. Some big names from recent decades will take part asRussia, the United States, Europe, China, India and a Rest of the World team compete amid the coronavirus crisis with a prize fund of $180,000 (£146,000). Former world champions Kasparov, Vladimir Kramnik and Viswanathan Anand as well as the 16-year-old Iranian Alireza Firouzja will be among the competitors with Fide to confirm the team lineups on Wednesday. The event will take place online and each team must include at least one female player. In order to guarantee fair play, the players will be observed by Fide-affiliated international referees via a video conference call. To ensure that the participants do not receive any kind of external help, their webcam, computer screen and the room in which they are playing will be supervised. Fide’s president, Arkady Dvorkovich, said: “The reasons why an official tournament like this has to be conducted online are very unfortunate – but we are happy to see that chess is providing solace to millions of people who are under a home lockdown.” The first stage, a double round-robin will take place on 5-9 May, with a rapid-play format where each player starts the game with 25 minutes on the clock plus 10 seconds of extra time added after each move. The top two teams will meet in a Superfinal on 10 May, with Fide estimating an audience of several million worldwide. Chess tournaments have been disrupted amid the coronavirus outbreak. The Candidates tournament, one of Fide’s flagship events, had to be halted midway through, while the Chess Olympiad had to be postponed to 2021. Source www.theguardian.com Tue 21 Apr 2020 21.51 BSTLast modified on Wed 22 Apr 202001.20 BST The tournament will be broadcast live across multiple outlets including FIDE's and Chess.com's own channels across Twitch, YouTube, Mixer, Twitter, and other international streaming platforms. With an estimated audience of several million worldwide, commentary by chess experts will be conducted in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Turkish and Polish. source
