Hi, in this forum I will post a daily position, asking you to write the evaluation of the position using the tools given in my article, and offer a plan and a move.

Then, together with me, we will discuss the quality of the evaluation, and different ideas from chess that reflect in the position.

Today's position is:

So, analyze opponent threats first, then give a full evaluation, and upon that base a plan and suggest a move.

Please, dont guess, analyze!

Before any movements...

Threats to white:

- Re1+

- cxd4 cxd4 Bxd4+

White's possible plans:

- Rxf6!?

- Bh6!?

- Qxa1

At the end of the day, I really like Rxf6. Unless I missed something I think that it forces a mate for white.

Hey Disgruntled_Sheep,

I have noticed that in either case- Bh6 or Rxf6, in your variations black plays along, and takes the offerings.

Try to think, is there a better way to play for black?

Clue- complete your evaluation of the position, with the tools we have discussed in our lesson. as for now you only covered the pre-evaluation threat check. The purpose of the evaluation is for us to find other better moves for each side in your analyzed variations.

Give it a try, I'm here to guide you further on.

Ok, further analysis...

Space:

-white controls b5, d5, e5 (and I will also say h5)

-black has mild control over a4 and h4.

= white has space advantage

Current development:

both ds bishops are developed and active, as are 2 rooks from castling, queens are both active. Black a8 rook undeveloped/inactive, white b1 semi-active.

= white has mildly better development

Piece quality:

white:

- B, good bishop, control of c1-h6 diagonal, not useful c1-a3 though

- Rb1, attacking protected b6 pawn, nothing special

- Rf5, very active rook (under possible threat - such as 1...Re1+ 2.Qf1 Qxf5 3.Qxe1 Qxb1), inside enemy territory on line 5

- Q, very active, tied up to protecting Rf5, possible attack/check on a8

- broken pawn structure with doubled pawns

black:

- B, good bishop, only real useful square is h4, wins exchange on d4

- Q possible use of a4, e6.

- Ra8, nothing

- Re8 strong control of e file

- strong pawn structure

= piece quality roughly equal?

Material:

- equal

Re1+ Qf1? really? Bg5 cxd? whooot??

these are the best moves for each side??

or you consider bribing your opponent?

calculating variations, you seem to choose worst replies for some reason. did you check other options besides these?
