Puzzles: Importance of the Big Diagonal

Hello Team 54:

This week we are going to look at puzzles on the Big Diagonal. I know that we have been spending a lot of time on the diagonals but I think these puzzles will be beneficial to all. I also put up 15 problems because there are some key ideas that we all can learn from.

Next week we will work on the bishop pair and then we will be done with diagonals altogehter. Hopefully by then you will be able to look at bishops and diagonals a little bit differently.  So good luck and like always; open up the move list if there are questions about a puzzle.

It doesn't really matter how many you get. If you are able to find the solution then that is great. If not then that may be even better, because that means you just learned something new.

Very good games

But in the first game:

If  white bishop plays 5-Rh5 , he will threat the king and in the next move the white rock will take the black queen

Roberto,

 White cant go Rh5 because the Rook is pinned that is why the king moves first to free up the rook.
