Welcome to a new section I am creating called Pyramus Play Blogs! This will be an informative blog, a fun blog, and I am always open to suggestions for the nest one.

Topic today, Opening tactics.

A very common opening is kings pawn defended in the Scandinavian, like this

The point here being that after you take the pawn, the opponent takes with the queen. But there is a trick here. Enter the Tennyson Gambit. This is from one of my recent games where I wanted to school this guy so hard. So I did! Check this.

Here's how the Tennyson gambit, ICBM variation works. You lose the knight in order to get the queen, and the opponent has to take the knight or lose a rook. This means you have a lane of fire at the queen for free.

Next, let's talk about another great gambit, the Blackmar-Diemer gambit. It looks a bit like this.

This is deadly at the 1500 and below level. The point is that you gambit one or two pawns to get very rapid development squares and overload the middle.

How about a good old-fashioned Sicilian lesson that will not only save you from embarrassment when playing it, but also give you a queen.

Boom. You just won the game. As Mr. Shaibel said, You resign now. This is called the Smith-Morra. Never Never Ever put your queen on the same diagonal as the king, or your queen is toast. Here's a little tactic that will stop your opponent's queen attacks. You play as black.

They can't take anything if it's guarded! The knights are developed and tell the Queen to pack up and leave!

This next opening shows you the power of the caro-kann fantasy variation. Black can get mated very quickly, like this representation of an in-person tournament in Orlando, FL that I played in.

This is how quickly the fantasy variation landed me a mate. This is where I leave you with one last tip in the openings. Don't rely on your queen to win games. They are won and lost with tactics. I've been India_Again and thanks for reading the Pyramus_Play Blog.

Hey @ultimatepandaofchess I get where you're coming from, but most people are wayy too scared to make a queen trade and rely on their tactics.
