Question about improvement

I know some members like @little_guinea_pig and @DaBabysBurner have gone from virtually not playing any chess to, in a matter of less than a year, being rated 2000+ (little Guinea) and 1700+.

My question is how? They say often they started taking studying seriously - but what does this mean?

How can I - and others - experience same extreme improvement?

I improved from like 1200 to 1800 in 2 or 3 months, it's all about just doing chess. At first I just played games and just learned from my mistakes to like 1600! Then all you have to do is focus. I learnt openings, did puzzles, etc.

hard work and studying is important, i guess. but idk, the only thing i did to get from 1200 to here was: grind a lot, do tactics, analyze games to learn from mistakes, watch gothamchess, and learn a bit of openings, so i guess that could work for you too :\

I guess that’s really it, huh. I mean I was in the 190’s in blitz and now I’m 1100 in 4 months so ... but it’s not the same imo as going from 1000 to 2000... but maybe it’s the same in the regard as just the more you play the more you learn and the better you get

It will take longer…

Yes I imagine so. I figured I could reach 1500 by the end of the year... but i saw guinea and da baby getting to 1700+ and 2000+ in less than a year

100-200 point jumps at a time are common if you continue to work at it and play.

You don't. Almost no one gets to 2000+ in one year - even the members you mentioned I'm sure played chess a ton before chess.com and were under-rated or just simply didn't play a lot but were actually much higher

I like my chess improvement pace, but I've been here a little over 4 years on chess.com now. No breaks on hiatus and been working on chess ever since then. I'm still not 2000+ rating (getting closer though with 1900+ at least and I did get 2000+ blitz on another inflated site with an li and ending in chess though.

Take @B1ZMARK for example. They took literally years to improve past 1200 and then they "extreme improvement" boosted over 2000! It wasn't real "extreme improvement" though. They were just under-rated from improved chess years before. I'm sure most players with crazy improvement is the similar story. There is no "extreme" jump or shortcut to chess. Just consistent growth if you do the right things - although some improve faster than others, but what you put in is ultimately what you'll get out grin.png

True I was very underrated (for those who don’t know I beat many 1900s when I was 1400)
