Questions about the 4 Player Chess rules

I offer to ask questions about the 4 Player Chess rules in this forum topic.

The 1st question is: What are the conditions for the end of the game? (How/When does the server decide that it is the time to stop a game?). Full list of the conditions, please. Including checkmate, stalemate, etc.

For example, I just played a game which was finished unexpectedly. Only 2 player left: me and blue. I had a king, queen, rook and 2 pawns. Blue had a king and a pawn. I had near 40 points, he - near 50. I expected to checkmate him, get +20 (60 in total) and win. But when I ate his last pawn the game ended and we still had 40 and 50 points, so he won. He did not time out (me too), he did not resign (at least there was no message about that). So, what happened? Is it a bug or a feature? If it is a part of the rules, please explain them and publish.

pic please?

seems more like a bug to me... was he stalemated at least?

BabYagun

No, he was not stalemated, his king got 2 squares to make a move. And in the case of a stalemate one of us should get +20, which did not happen. I have a screenshot, but, unfortunately, it does not show my queen and the rook, they are behind the result score table. But it was in the center of the board (he tried to promote his last pawn and supported it by his king) and there was no mate or stalemate, definitely.

This happened to me as well; I reported it elsewhere. I was 12 points down, stripped my opponent of his last pawn, and the game suddenly ended with him the winner. The next time a similar situation arose I was careful not to take the last pawn, but this is not a precaution I should need to take.

It might be helpful to the developers to note: my opponent had no time to act after my move, it was instantaneous as I captured the pawn. The application ended the game, not him.

Same here, I won when he took my last pawn, he didnt get any points for getting me down to just my king

How do I paste the image?

Same thing happened to me. Other than me there were 2 players left with only king. When I checkmated one king the game ended with +20 points. The last player had only king left.

If I were given the chance to checkmate the last player I would get over 100 points. No idea how my advantage got that big.

Another proof from today's game:

At the first screenshot I have 21 points. At the end of the game I have 33. Noone was given +20, no stalemate, no checkmate.

Regarding your questions. Endgame conditions will be if there is only kings remaining. The bug with taking a player's last piece is fixed and will be live in 20 minutes or so.

1v1 end game scenarios:

  • So games will end when a player stalemates themselves (it doesn't wait till the next player's turn, I like this)
  • Checkmate
  • Resignation
  • Both players only have 1 king remaining
  • A king is taken

i once stalemated myself, but it is weird because by my next turn it would likely not have been stalemate anymore. doesnt make sense, but as a fun rule i still like it.

i've also noted that you can't pick up an undead king with your king. one game, red timed out or resigned, and me and blue were racing to pick up his king. it was frustrating that although my king was right there, i could do nothing while he hobbled his night from far away and picked up the 20 points

i think games should be forced to be played out as long as it's unclear who gets second. i find myself winning as blue and able to decide if green gets to beat red or red gets a win over green. This should not be up to me to decide, and i always give my opponent  a shot at gathering enough points for 2nd, while trying to mate him asap.   as in the game below, most care less and resign as soon as they secure 1st. i feel i deserve to be able to play for 2nd place! it's not fair and i hope to see a rule change, not sure what rule would be ideal.

actually i think the current way resigning works is flawed. you are playing 3 players. when you resign the game, you should lose to all remaining players no matter the points you have, and vs players already out, depending on points.  people would stop abusing the resign button..

@battleMind24, thank you for the bug fix.

stalemate rule sure does provide more ways to win a game! Qn6+ blunders the game for yellow surprise.png as  Km4 stalemate

I have a question. So if the position is like this:

and one person puts a queen behind the white king and the white king moves away does this count as a double check?
Because the white king moves away then the queen is checking the other king!

Double and triple checks must be made in 1 move. If a player moves a piece that allows a discovered attack on another player's king and at the same time checks another king (be it by discovery or standard check), that is a double check (even if it wasn't his piece). The same applies for triple checks

The position you posted does not count as a double check. When white played Re1 it counts as 1 check and when black kings move away it counts as 1 check.

@Master_Jimmy_Zeng, replace the white king with a bishop or queen and it will be a double check. Also a double check is when 2 kings are checked at the same time, for example, red moves his queen and checks both green and yellow kings at a time.
