"Comments" Count

The Comments count on chess.com has always been off by 1.

The thread starter is not a comment. A comment is made in response to an existing thread. So the intial post should not be included in the comment count.

If no one responds to this, then this would be a thread with zero comments. If 100 people respond, then it would be a thread with 100 comments (and 101 total posts).

since some members have nearly 200,000 posts (total)  is that really significant to worry about ?

a post is a post, whether the initial post or a subsequent post.

In the Forums it is significant as the expectation when looking at a thread with 1 comment would be to see the intial thread starter plus a response.

For individual stats it is not significant, but it is still inaccurate.

If the idea is to count posts, then use "posts," but "comments" are slightly different. It's a small cleanup item, to be sure, and not a major issue. But beta is about clean-up after all.
