Ready for some 4-Player-Chess? (Prototype)

Every night a few developers and a few of us product guys have been getting together to indulge in one of our favorite games. Not because we are testing or debugging — we all do that during the working hours — but because it is so much fun to play. It's challenging, it's whacky, it's sometimes shocking, and it's all chess(ish.) It's 4-player-chess, and it's a blast!

We've been refining the rules and play for this game for several weeks now, and while it's still a prototype, it's playable, and it's just too much fun for us to keep to ourselves. We justified opening this up early by saying it needed more players to help us work out the bugs, but honestly, we really just want more players so we can play whenever we want. Like now, for example, I'd rather be playing. So come join me and small band of acolytes who are already developing an unhealthy obsession with this game.

There are no ratings or chat at the moment, which is a shame because this game can be very social. But we'll get there, if you let us know you like it. We are still experimenting and learning so please share your feedback with us!

Rules

• Standard chess pieces and moves (but no en passant)
• Time control is 5|5
• Pawns promote to Queens on your 8th rank
• Free-for-All: The player with the most points wins
• Points are earned by checkmate or capturing pieces
• Checkmate eliminates a player and earns +15 points
• Pawns are +1 point, Knights are +3, Biships and Rooks are +5, Queens are +9, Kings are +15
• Any promoted queens are only worth 1 point
• Dead pieces (grey pieces) from eliminated players do not provide points, except the King, which is +15
• Double-checks are worth +5, and triple-checks are worth +15
• Resignation or Timeout
  
  • All pieces are frozen (turned grey) except for the King, which is worth +15
  • The last player standing will receive +15

4-play-chess is actually pretty awesome and totally weird!

nope, you were playing 2 boards. It was not funny. I resigned.

so there are two bugs I have found.. one (see above) is the delicious ability to open up multiple instances simply by going to the link again. Obviously the matching algorithm needs to check for duplicate usernames otherwise the feast will continue. This led to the second bug that I noticed because one of the players must have been so angry with the situation that he let his clock run out. However, this led to him not automatically forfeit and the game just sat there in limbo.... 

Agreed, these are both issues that need to be addressed. For now, if you see two players with the same username, feel free to abort. That'll dissuade the same player from opening multiple tabs.

Can you make it so that you don't have to click on the link because it's really frustrating to have to go to this forum every time I want to play.

I don't know if it's because of not enough players or other reasons but it takes forever to actually find four players to play with.

It always says two waiting when I start a game.

We're not ready to go mainstream with a link in the nav for this yet. Just a prototype for now. 

We need players to get the word out, @winston_weng. Right now there are not enough players on to keep queues moving quickly.
