I dunno, to me it's just a bit unsettling. I understand that it's a recommendation. It's a good one. I like it just unsettling. Doesn't seem right whatsoever lol.

There already are online tournaments
its up to players (and of course that includes streamers) which type of board and pieces they want

I guess it would be cool for chess.com to use the 3d pieces when showing DGT boards for tournaments. But you couldn't have tournaments in which 3d pieces are forced, because some people find it difficult to see the pieces and some just don't like 3d pieces. Lots of people come to chess.com because they don't like playing OTB, so tournaments where you are imitating OTB don't really make sense.
