I'd really like to see a 2d version inspired by these pieces. Soviet-latvian set, or the one used in the last part of the Queen's Gambit. Recently fell in love with these pieces and want to play with a version of them online.

How can one use this to make 2d pieces?

I don’t know, still trying to figure it out. I have zero experience with 2D modeling. Do you know which softwares to use? I would like to try for myself if no one else comes to help.

I'd try GIMP. It's free and it's not super hard to get a hang of using it.

Also if you think about it there are already some pieces at chess.com regular sets that look like. For example the pawn from “space” set is basically the same as the pawn from Latvian set.
