I really like the aggressive advanced variation, which can be both used as extremely attacking and extremely defensive. It provides great opportunities for a quick development.

Not trying to be mean or anything but your variation allows both sides to force loss of castling rights, in move 7 for white Bb5+, on move 8 you allow black to play 8...Bxf2. Most players will go for the c5 break earlier as well

cegalleta

since you like the advanced I'll share a few lines from a lichess study I have, I never play the advanced but it's apparently the 'correct' way to play against the caro, hope it's insightful.

cegalleta

and finally, a game where I actually played the line

I misplayed at times ofc, but I use daily games as an opportunity to try stuff I wouldn't normally play, so I wasn't comfortable with the position, still, maybe you all find it useful.

btw: the g4 idea wasn't wrong but played it at the wrong moment, I just had to prepare it by retreating the knight first, check it with the analysis, 16. Nf3 Be4 17. Nd2 Bf5 18. g4!

Another few useful lines for the advanced Caro are:

^ My usual variation, slower center approach, but good control after. ^

^ A variation from the Queen's pawn opening. ^
^ A variation with good development and quick attack for the center. ^

The first one is ok but on move 7 black can kick the bishop away with 7...c4, I also like semi-slav setups, which is what playing the caro against the queen's gambit transposes too, although it can be very theoretical and awkward to play, finally, in the last variation black could play 7... Bxf7 as well, winning a pawn and forcing white's king to lose castling rights.

Not trying to be mean, take it as independent commentary from the stuff from some days ago.

Yuup, but after 7. ...c4 you have a closed position. If you like those, you do you, but as an aggressive player, I don't like them. I agree about the 7. ... Bxf7, I missed it, but in my defense, I was on a train with 4% battery, lol.

I think that while it's true it'll be a closed position and pretty boring, it's still best, maybe you could try the 2 knight's, it usually evolves into pretty open positions, or also there's a gambit that's not as crazy as the alien, yields pretty good results even in master games with this setup:

I don't really like gambits, I only like the Halloween Gambit, since it's my favorite opening, and I sometimes play the Fred's Defense:

This is the main line, it's a +5, but a very tricky position, in which your opponent can lose all the advantage quickly. It's not a good opening, it's the worst opening for black, actually, but I recommend considering it for bullet and blitz games, it definitely has the surprise factor.

I have seen this in a Remote Chess academy video it actually has a good win average, but there is a trick to it because it is almost never played so there is just not enough games to mesure correctly a win percentage

I reccomend looking at the games of World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship, mostly endgames there is a lot to learn about how to convert endgames and the resilience in how to defend a lost endgame. There a lot of really exciting middlegames as well, there is not that much to look at openings but you might find some ideas you like and incorporate them into your game.

To prepare for a tournament that is coming what I do is focus in opening preparation for the first days and when I am quite sure I already know my lines, I just keep training as usual normally adding a bit more of tactical exercises

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz44

And a piece of advice: Before every round do some simple tactics to warm up and enhance your tactical vision for the game. It is important that the exercises are easy to avoid getting frustrated

I made a video in how to play Chess 960, analyzing my qualifiers games and explaining the things I have learnt if anyone is interested in freestyle chess: https://youtu.be/4Wn9HsmoTbg

I made a video explaining what I learnt in the Coach Dane's lessons : https://youtu.be/8vju9Qd0PeE
