Running Goals & First Event
Thanks comrademarathon! P.S. I just looked up what that is.. lol
My knees have been hurting a bit so I decided to slow down my running plans. I jumped forward in my original plan because running was feeling so good! Shouldn't have done that.. stick to my slow build up to steady running.
Going back to week 5 of 10 in the walk/run plan. Will complete 5 more weeks then worry about distance.
Week 5) 7 min run / 3 min walk for 30 mins
6) 8m run / 2m walk
7) 9m run /1 m walk
8) 13m run / 2 min walk
9) 14m run / 1 min walk
10) 30m run

Everyone's different, but some of my suggestions for knee pain are:
-Stay light on your feet. Keep a quick cadence with low oscillation
-Run on softer surfaces if you can (snow, grass, dirt, etc)
-Have a lower body weight/ fat percentage. This is why runners are so skinny and some can handle running +100miles/ week
-Stretch or foam roll quads after a run
Quick update!
Last said I jumped forward in walk/run plan to just running.. was getting excited, and wanted to see pace and such, but noticed it was hurting more!
Went back to walk/run plan. Just finished it this week! Will now start just running after 3 months of building up. Excited to start speed training!
Signed up for 3 events.
Feb 28th 5k. April 25th 5k. April 29th 10k.
When jogging at an easy pace, not trying for speed, seem to average around 5:20min/km on quicker days and almost 6:00min/km on slower days.

Hi all!
Just signed up for my first ever running event, which for now is online unfortunately. How the heck do you have an online marathon?! Well apparently people use a tracking/running app and send in GPS proof of their run times.
The race I signed up for is 10k, and will be run March 21. My only goal is to finish, and run the entire time. It's called the Chilly Half Marathon and is normally held in Burlington, ON.
With the help of a book I have a 12 week plan that will end on March 21 with a 10k run.
Take care!
