Running Shoes

I could not resist the Nike Zoom Rival Fly's on sale. I've never ran in Nike's nor cared for the brand but the "cheap" price and hype around breaking2 and carbon fibre plates made me curious.

I've watched a few reviews on this shoe and none of them have been too favourable. I'm actually looking forward to trying out a 10km road race in these in about a week. I'll let you know the result!

What is your running shoe brand of choice? Ever ran in Nike Zoom's?

Sweet! I've been curious about the new Nike technology. Let us know how they feel. I run almost all of my road miles in Saucony Triumphs and the rest in a pair of Brooks (Racer St. #5) racing flats from like 8 years ago--I love them both.

I'm amazed you have a pair lasting 8 years. It seems my shoes can barely last a year, and I don't even run too high mileage. I used to run in Brooks Ghosts but the upper wore out too quickly so I transitioned to Saucony. I wanted to purchase the Saucony Endorphin but ended up with the Zooms meh.png

Yeah, I go through several pairs of running shoes a year. I just hardly ever wear the Brooks Racers.

Awesome comrades, those look sweet! Have you tried them out yet? Exciting to get some new kicks.  Do you wear different shoes different days, or stick to one pair until worn out?

I've only run enough to have one pair. Tried lots of different shoes on before buying, but found Nike's most comfortable.

@jay_1044 Thanks for sharing. I usually buy a new pair before a significant race and then break them in on the treadmill or outside on a nice day; I want my new shoes to look fresh on race day. Typically I use one pair until they're worn out.

The Nike Rival Zoom's passed their trial. I set a new PB in the 10km distance with 35:59, but I would not say the shoe improved my performance. However, they did lend themselves to a comfortable and cushioned ride.

Zoom or no Zoom, you're crushing it! Nice work!

Awesome comrades! Great time indeed!  Must be putting lots of work in.

Unfortunately I haven't run in 26 days now sad.png

Oh shoot why so long?

Avatar of jay_1944

Well the original reason is really funny... But the weather got beautiful at the same time the clocks changed.. Had no good shorts to go run in. I liked running in the dark and cold sad.png Lol

But think it's just the bad habit, and working too much! Haven't kept up with running 👎

How many miles you running each week in those things???

When I started running I just ran in any shoe (I didnt know there were differences) and had bad knee pains, so my mother took me to a dedicated running store where I was told any Newbalance over 800 will be a good running shoe. So now when I need a new pair I go to the store and just get any Newbalance with a number greater than 800 on it that fits. Im not sure if thats actually good advice but ive never had knee pain since! (also the store guy taught me some stretching techniques that helped alot)

@jay_1944 I'm not really keeping track, but they've become my main running shoes now.

@ItemizeNation My personal opinion is that as long as a shoe fits and feels good it will work. Don't forget that that guy's job is to make sales, and he'll tell you what you want to hear to make a sale. I suggest trying a different shoe next time so you know it's not specifically the Newbalance that\s stopping knee pain.

Other things, such as stretching, resting, and running with good form are better at preventing knee pain than shoes themselves.

When I started running seriously, some years ago, I used to have pain in the ankles, with time I figured out that was because of inadequate shoes for uneven terrain (in the forest), those shoes worked fine on concrete (in the city park), those were Nike running, I no longer buy that brand.
I prefer the Under Armour and ASICS brands for running. In my experience, for long distances helps a lot a lightweight pair of shoes.

I agree with @ItemizeNation, some stretching techniques help a lot.
