Anyone using this version???    I put it on another computer to try before committing.  Initial screen format remindes me of ChessBase (I have the older trail version)  Haven't had time to get serious with it.

One initial question.  If I edit a game in 4.5.2, add comments & run the Stockfish anylisis engine (save the results to the game ) will I be able to open the same game with and older version of SCID.  Same concern applies to Repetoir & Tree Masks.

Been using 4.5.2 for a while now, and have not had any issues.   Have not tried opening saved games with older versions of scid after adding comments with the new one, but I wouldn't think comments from a game file would pose any problems.  Since you have a copy of each on different computers, you'd likely be able to test out fairly quickly though.   My guess is, you won't have any problems.  If you don't like the new layout, scid is fairly customizable...just make it look like the old one.

Good luck!

Thanks.  I have been able to run Stockfish on one of the SCID 4.5.2 database games and all the information did save to a PGN file & load the PGN file into one of my SCID 4.2.2 DB.  I expected things to run OK & so it did.  Didn't see any issues.  I then re-anylized the game with TOGA II and compared the results.  The NAG codes where comperable with running TOGA several time back over the same game.  The numerical move rating was consistantly higher with  Stockfish over TOGA II on the one game I anylized with both.

SCID 4.5.2 Nov 2013 FYI

I have been running SCID 4.2.2 Jan 2010 on Windows 7 for a while, before W7 on W XP with no major issues.

BUT

With the older version while running the Anylisis Engine TOGA & TOGA II any time I tried run the "Search for opening errors" function it would crash the software.    Never had an issue with running the Anylisis Engine.

So natually when I set up SCID 4.5.2 & ran the first game I tried the "Search for Opening Errors" function set for the 1st 15 moves.  Running only one game (at this time) nothing bad happend and I got the same results I would get if I ran the whole game (which I did later).

Another time I will try again running the function through multipal games in a DB to see what happens.

As I am very interested in the 1st 15 moves of a game.  This will prove a time saver when reviewing a group of games of similar openings.  Instread of having to run every move of every game in a DB then reviewing the 1st 15 moves (as I have been).  It is now possible to run the anylisis engine (Stockfish) on only the 1st 15 moves of each game.  I usally set the time between moves at 180 seconds or 300 seconds for games I am serious about looking at.  Resulting in a faster anylisis time.  If you have a game with over 50 moves running at 300 seconds per move it will take a while.  Not to mention the games over 70 moves.

Maybe this will be of help to someone

Another question for the Gang ??????????????

This is a SCID ? I have had for a long time & never got around to pondering.

When you open the anylisis engine there is a section that says "Use Book"

Default is ELo2400.bin  ( have been using this for years)

Selectable is GM2600.bin  / Perfomance.bin & Varied.bin

Any words of wisdom as to what these different options do???

I never got around to running the same game through the different oiptions to see what happens.
