Scope of editor for posting contributions

Strangely enough, the editor options differ by type of contribution you are editing:

  • The most encompassing editor is available for group news. In particular, this editor allows to switch to the HTML code, which is particularly handy at times.
  • An editor with reduced features is available when posting a new topic in a forum thread.
  • Even less features are available when you post or edit a contribution of an existing forum thread. Two editing options I'm often missing in this setting are:
    • Alignment of paragraph (left -- center -- right).
    • Indenting hierarchy (as with the second-order indenting of this text).

What's the reason to reduce editor options in the second and third case? Can't you make the full set of editor options available always?

Forum threads I can see... just because I feel like it's Q&A or Q&Response... Responses that don't need tons of information. I do agree that it should have full options for all though... (could you also mention how to change to HTML code?) Maybe chess.com should make it a more prominent feature because I have no idea based on the icons I see...

I think I know why, but don't want to speak out of turn

I'll check on it and let you know.

Just to connect this to another discussion: In the thread

https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/tables-in-forum-posts-chrome-vs-firefox

I've discussed the problems generated by spurious CSS elements in tables. I would like to edit these tables and delete the CSS elements, but this is impossible because the editor does not allow me to see HTML code.

Instead, I need to copy the tables to an external HTML editor, edit them and copy them back to chess.com. This is unnecessarily cumbersome.

We should probably have a BASIC mode for everyone, and then a button to expand a FULL mode for everyone too. I'll ticket that.
