This is too confusing. I need practice.

I really like shogi, and I wish I could play and learn more of it. It's a very interesting game and because of piece drops it is considerably deeper and sharper than chess. It's also far less materialistic. I hear that on average a grandmaster can beat an average player with rook odds. In fact, I'm going to go find an online shogi server/website right now.

Wow. I found out that there is actually one more Shogi rule that isn't written in the first post. A piece can promote when it moves out of the promotion zone, too.

Same promotion as normal. I was playing on that site and somebody promoted a rook like that and I was really freaked out. Somewhat like an amateur chess player seeing en passant for the first time.

Ah yes... I remember that... I got freaked out by it about 5 times before I found out how it works. I still forget about it regularly.

Wow. I also got the board wrong. Files are numbered and ranks have letters. (Is "lettered" a word?)
