As for promotion (sorry I missed that post), I honestly hadn't thought about it. Given that I didn't specify, I'd say standard chess rules apply and it can promote to any piece, including hawks, elephants, and amazons. Since it's not to anyone's advantage at the moment what the rules are, I'd be fine with putting restrictions on it if the majority of players using the variant at the moment want them.
