In another group I belong to one of the members was asking what sharp defences black can play against 1.d4.  I recommended the following, but was wondering if Gambit Gangers had any good suggestions.

Queen's Gambit Tarrasch Von Hennig-Schara Gambit 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 4.cd cd

Queen's Gambit Declined Albin Countergambit 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5

Just curious. Is the above list based on any criteria like soundness or popularity or percentage of black's win?

tushu, my main criterion was sharpness of play.  All of these lines have been played by grandmasters, so they should be fairly sound.  The Benko Gambit, the Semi-Slav Noteboom and Botvinnik in particular have good reputations at the GM level.  None of them are particularly popular, and I haven't checked the black winning statistics.  It is my sense that if you know a sharp opening better than your opponent, you usually have fairly good chances of bringing home the full point.

qazzaqy2k, thanks for the Charlick/Englund lines.

Easy refute to the Englund Gambit:

Apparently, black can get an easy draw using the Englund.

Apparently, Miles and Huebner had agreed a draw in advance, but Huebner decided to have a little fun.

Match fixing? And neither had Soviet blood?

Miles was flat on his back the whole tournament, and apparently Korchnoi and Ljubojevic were protesting.  Perhaps Huebner felt it would be ungentlemanly to force Miles to play for hours on end, given his condition.  Miles, Huebner and Korchnoi ended up sharing first place in the tournament, so this may have been a factor as well.
