 thanks for pre-stage for play,

lets mi check to play, as first move, can i set 7g-7f ?

or using piece's symgol like S ,G ?

i think its better to set in vote 7g-7f

You can use either the symbol (S, G, etc.) or pure algebraic (7g-7f), whichever you prefer.

However, I will probably translate it to symbol in my game listing, just to be consistent.

I am still only 6 months into shogi myself so I will learn more terms as I go :)

tookArook

my move 1. 7g-7f

takodori

P7g-7f is the most poplar as the first move among the professional players.

tookArook

this is a great way to play...thanks Amy for suggesting it...and thanks takodori for the commentary (I look forward to move by move comments so we all can learn more) and thanks to my opponent ku8 and good luck

Unless you have a shogi set, the following shogi softwares might be useful to replay the game and thinking about your moves by yourself.

As to technical terms of shogi, please refer to the Hans Geuns' Basic Shogi Vocabulary.

In order to show Japanese characters on the HTML version correctly, please set character encoding parameter of your browser as Japanese(ISO-2022-JP).

2. P6g-6f

By the way, you don't have to wait for me to update the board before you reply to your opponent's move.  If you make several moves while I'm away, I'll catch up later.

3. S7i -6h

takodori

3. S-6h, Sente(First mover) still does not show his intension of how to use his Rook(Hisha) yet. I mean whether he will use it by transferring to his left side or keeping it on the 2nd file, while Gote(Secomd mover) clearly showed he would use it on the original 8th file at 2. P8c-8d.

Thanks takodori for the commentary and for the other resources you are posting here !

4. 6h-7g....to protect my weak head :)

Wouldn't it be great if we could have Yoshiharu Habu, who is both a FIDE IM and a Shogi Meijin comment on the game? It would be really interesting if he could delve into "static rook" vs. "ranging rook", the different castling styles, and ultimately the differences between Shogi and classical chess.

tookArook

well if he is on chess.com or if you know him by all means invite him to the group :)

Amy, just wondering if you have BCM Shogi....really good program and it lets you flip the board, etc

but a bit tricky trying to get the picture to fit into this small comment area...so I see why you are looking for other software too :)

tookArook

Well I am not that good in Japanese but we can all learn the differenet languages together :)

Yes, I am looking into BCM and several other solutions.

I think that 4.S6h-7g is is not well move. It block Bishop 8h and not defend point 8g. Here, black could play 4.B-7g and then for example 5.S-6g, 6.R-8h and 7.G-7h.

Now black (sente) must think how they will play with Bishop. And white(gote) have a simple strategy "bogin" (shin Silver).

Let's see this interesting game.
