Thanks, ku8, for telling us some of the terminology.  It is quite wonderful really and, in general, very different in character from that used in international chess.

4 S-7g is played by professional players as well as 4. B-7g at that position. The difference is 4. S-7g shows one's intention not to choose Furibisha(Ranging Rook, trasferring a Rook to one's left side) while B-7g is likely to choose Furibisha(Ranging Rook). On the other hand, Yuri's opinion might be correct if the side of S-7g did not know how to respond to the Bogin attack correctly. Let's see what will happen on the board.

Yes, I am looking into BCM and several other solutions.

You are looking into me??? Surprised

BCM is simple the abbreviation of my name. Maybe better use BCMS as abbreviation for BCMShogi.

Amy, just wondering if you have BCM Shogi....really good program and it lets you flip the board, etc

but a bit tricky trying to get the picture to fit into this small comment area...so I see why you are looking for other software too :)

Still the graphics used before had also looking nice.

About a smaller board, you can try the "Bona->compact" theme.

Still for posting shogi-positions (into forums), I suggest it's better to use SFEN (easier to do and saving space).

In BCMShogi you can do it with Help->HTML-Position.

For example: http://home.arcor.de/Bernhard.Maerz/SFEN/index.htm?sfen=ln1gkgsnl/1r5b1/pspppp1pp/6p2/1p7/2PP5/PPS1PPPPP/1BG1G2R1/LN2K1SNL%20w%20-

I like the sfen but how do you get the whole board image into this forum? I try to save picture and it just saves an image of a piece?

The link I show above is to a java-script site (from Fat Bold Cyclop), which creates the graphic from SFEN.

The link can also shown in this way: Board

thanks BCM....I get it now...I will pass the info onto Amy...just put position into BCMShogi and then go to help and click HTML position and it generates the board as an HTML doc and then we can just paste that link to the forum...that might save Amy lots of time instead of cut paste and upload images

test of the html position help feature on BCMshogi

this link should be the current state of board after my(tookArook) move

Amy if you like how this works we can stick with it

I did notice that the board does not flip..even if I flip it in BCMShogi and then do the SFEN html help ..the board does nto flip?? so maybe will have to stick with pasting graphics

tookArook

I have worked a little bit on the html position help feature of BCMShogi and I figured out a way to get the pieces flipped...I reversed the SFEN string and changed the case and then posted the new string into the javascript page that BCMShogi produces and it worked accept the board coordinates are still wrong (need a board image with coordinates reversed)....I am just playing around with it using c# etc....I sent a message to the programmer and waiting for response if he has a better way of flipping the html version...for now the graphic board image pasting works fine...I am just trying to find the easiest way to keep the games updated for Amy. Right now she does a lot of work for us and I want to make it easier so I will continue to tinker around

It's logically: SFEN contains ONLY the position and nothing else.

Oh, I'm not the programmer of JavaScript Shogi Board Viewer. Embarassed

It's written from Fat Bold Cyclop.

But I've written and asked him, to make his program better.

(A flipping-board feature already exists, but the coordinates are not flipped. Furtheremore the display is looking more worse than the older version which I mirrored. We will see...)

For you kibitzers who are new to the game, ...

Hmmm, I'm sure, "kibitzing" is not possible in this forum.

Kibitz means, that the PLAYERS are NOT hearing the kibitzer words. Cool

For example, I (6 kyu, not a strong player) have recognized an important thing about this game, but when I will tell it here in the forum, this can maybe help one player. Surprised

And something (little) other: is it possible, that the players make an introduction of themself, please? For example I would like to know the strength/rank of the players.

introducing Sente (tookArook): I am new to Shogi and learned the rules about 6 months ago. I mostly play on brainking.com (12 wins and 8 loses) and so far have a rating of 1643 but that is mostly against other western players that are new to the game too. I have played on Shogi 24 and lost bad.Yell

I have been playing Western chess for over 20 years and right now have a rating of over 1900.

I picked up Xiangqi 2 years ago and still love that too

just a test to see if board fits better...this is current position too....Amy I used BCMShogi and did save as... with pgn extension and then inserted into here and then resized it ...does it look ok? I tried the bona compact theme but it does not have coordiantes so went back to normal and think it is ok with resizing...any feedback?

P.S. the official board in the first post is not rotated this time?...so gote can use this image if needed

It's a little squished horizontally.  And the background doesn't come along?

But it's OK with me.  Can you message me with the exact steps you took to get it here?

Sorry, I forgot to rotate the master board this time.

Amy

tookArook

yes it squishes it a bit but I think it is nice without the background and also fits better that way..I can still see the pieces and if my opponent agrees than maybe we will keep it this way...but again it is up to you Amy

:)

Oh that's good news.  I won't rotate the board anymore.
