Welcome to our third Shogi game !

If you are unfamiliar with Shogi, here's a good introduction:  Shogi

hirohiigo is playing sente, and witster is playing gote.

To the participants:  Please track this forum so you'll know when it is your turn to move.

The time control is 3 days per move.  No vacations, unless agreed to by both participants.  No computers.  Databases are OK.

Just post your move to this forum and I will update the board diagram below as soon as possible.

Use the following abbreviations.

King ... K               Rook ... R

Bishop ... B           Knight ... N

Lance ... L            Silver ... S

Gold … G              Pawn ... P

For promoted pieces use + sign in front of a piece latter (example: +R –promoted rook)

For drops use * sign, x for capture and – for normal move of the piece.

Example notation for first couple of moves:

1.  P7g-7f        P3c-3d
2.  P6g-6f        P8c-8d

Arrow indicate the last move.

witster resigned due to time constraints.

Since you don't seem to have any players in this game yet, I'll play sente.

Sahist4

Great, now we wait for gote player. Smile

TheGrumpyGoat

I'd be happy to play gote, if you don't mind someone who's just learning.

hirohiigo

I don't mind, I'm also a beginner.  I've only been playing since April.

TheGrumpyGoat

Cool, let's play.

hirohiigo

Sure thing.  Hopefully Sahist doesn't mind us playing without him posting here first.  I'll be posting the current state of the board after every one of my moves using Fat Bold Cyclop's SFEN diagram, via BCM Shogi.  Good luck!

I'm also going to be constantly updating a replay of the game using Kifu for Flash.  You can find it here:

Hi Fella's

Have a good game.

The flash board works well, for some reson I often have trouble with java.

Sahist4

Why would I mind? I'm happy to see a game going! Smile

Thanks hirohiigo for that links, some great Shogi web tools you got there! I'll just keep updating the main board for the observers of this game.

But don't forgett to keep the engines off. LaughingLaughingLaughing

LOL, it seems that your program is growing in popularity these days BCMShogi! Laughing

Best of luck to both players.

Thanks, I've been excited that I finally figured out how to use Kifu for Flash a few weeks ago, I've been using it for a lot of my games.  And I'm just using the SFEN diagram to confirm the accuracy of my moves - the board will always be correct if for some reason I give the wrong notation (which I have a bad habit of doing).

@BCM: LOL of course.  Using engines to play games takes all the fun out of it.  Besides, lately I've noticed a lot of engines I use for analysis like to recommend 4th file rook, which is a strategy I'm particularly bad with. Tongue out
