So, his king can not be eaten... I agree.
Simple new suggestion rule that everyone will agree on

@vengaboly the game would simply end when that happens. as if it had never started, for all of the players.

@venbagoly Oooh, I see what you mean. Yeah, your way seems even better, because with my rule, in some cases, a player that still has all is materail could realize that he's in a bad spot and resign to abort the game. that could happen.
So the rule should be: if a player who resigns or disconnects while in possession of all his material, his king is worth 0 points.

I would add something like all players have all material left and no promotions has been made. Maybe a maximum move count as well, not sure. Overall I like the idea, but not sure what the best implementation would be. Maybe the player that resigns/time outs should lose rating points.

Yes... a deduction from those who resign of such scenarios should definitely be penalized by some lost points due to it.

Here is a new rule suggestion that seems to impose itself
If a player resigns or discoinnects while he is in possession of ALL is original material, the game is automaticaly aborted.
This is a very simple rule to apply that could resolve the most unfair situations that arise when people do early resigning or disconnecté
What do you guys think?
Leaving us back with OPs original idea.

I would rather not have the game abort, since we could be somewhat far into the game and someone might have connection issues and still have all his material.

Let's propose it this way:
The game gets aborted when a player time outs/resigns if:
No points have been gained by any player
No promotions has been made by any player
The player that resigns is not in check
The game has gone 20 or less plies (maximum of 5 moves/player).
While the game will be aborted, for rating purposes it will be calculated as loss for the player that resigned against all the other players. However the game will not be calculated as a draw between the other players.
It could be argued that we want more than 5 moves/player to be included here, but I don't think the rule should be very controversial if we set the bar low.

I do not agree with Ne2willdo's idea. It effectively creates much wider possibilities for aborting games, and will cause many more aborted games than we have already now. We really should not allow people to abort so many more games.

@Martin0 #11: I think not necessary to abort the whole game, because one player is disconnected. It is enough to prohibit the player who has left. But under your terms, the whole game can be aborted...

@martin0 yeah, obviously my original post needed some fine tuning. what you are saying sounds correct to me. Let's see how this conversation evolves. I think we're finally on the path to finding some solution to a part of the early disconnect/resign problem
Anyway, you get the idea: Set the bar very low so we can resolve the most unfair situations while making sure we do not create new complications/frustrations

I join. I agree the original post if only the aborted player is withdrawn and not the whole game aborted.
