SOP Issues list

We can use this topic for SOP issues. I will collect and submit to SO on a regular basis and update when they reply. Feel free to add general issues you are having.

• Wifi connectivity is not clear whether the board is connected.

Most of the time that I play with my board I actually stream on twitch and this has been helpful for documenting issues and reporting them to SO.  If I run into any issues I'll do my best to document them here as well ( with possible workarounds ) 

I've been trying to setup wifi for a few days. I think it's a screen message problem and perhaps I *am connected to wifi, but it's confusing to say the least. I simply enter my password to add wifi manually (which also shows up automatically, same result) and it returns "wifi added successfully" but when I go "back" it shows same screen with wifi "setup" button. Ok, perhaps it did work but confusing? Well, I go to the "play online" screen and all I can find are SquareOff players from the SO server, no link/button/information anywhere about how to connect/find chess.com or lichess.org players. FWIW, In the SO app it shows my chess.com and lichess.org accounts as logged in and password is saved in the app. I've tried uninstall/reinstall app on several different devices with same result. I can see SO players but even logged into chess.com/lichess.org through the SO app I can't see any way in which to connect to a player outside of the SO server list.

@glueShoe - sorry I can't get some screen shots up but for the WiFi you should be able to look in your router and see if the MAC address of the SOP board is connected. 

In addition, on the "Play Online" section, the third tab over is "Random Challenge" and that needs to have the server you want to use selected. You can choose SquareOff, Chess.com, Lichess, or Chess Moves. 

I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner (checking router). Frustration made my mind go blank and I kept expecting information from the interface. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll check out the server list screen next to confirm.

UPDATE: I didn't find any device that would indicate it is connected to my router. At least nothing recognizable as "Square Off" is connected, and the rest look familiar. Having said that, I don't know how else I would be seeing even SO players on the player list if it wasn't connecting to wifi so I'll assume it's connected for now and it's an unidentifiable name in the device list.

Also, I did find chess.com and lichess.org at the "random challenge" screen, so that implies random challenge is the only integration with servers other than the SO server? That's what I'm seeing at least, as I wasn't able to select a particular player and only find SO players in the "play online->player list". Perhaps that can be bypassed by adding a particular player to "friends list", i.e., if it searches servers other than SO?

UPDATE 2: The wifi *is connected, and although that isn't clear in the app it does list SO online players and random matches work as tested. I'm able to login and select chess.com and lichess.org on the random match screen so I assume/hope/think I'll find those players when I search the players list from "play online". All's working as designed I suppose. The board itself is fantastic and engaging to play on even with just the AI.

On a side note: I found a way to use my wooden Championship Series pieces with the SO board.

Here are pictures of proof of concept. 3.75'' Championship Series pieces with SO board. Just did the King so far as proof of concept and have honed in on likely the easiest way going forward.

I have an issue where I was playing against the computer in timer view. Went to promote my queen and the there was a big where I couldn't select any piece. Had to quit out of the game, come back in the board view and then make the move to promote for it to work. 

When you go to the Online List tab of the "Play Online" screen, you can enter usernames for any of the servers that you are signed into and get back search results from which you can challenge individual users. The problem with this is that it doesn't appear reliable - there are players I know are online on Lichess, and they don't get returned in response to appropriate searches.

I am also getting duplicate records in my Game History for every game I play against the AI.

This happened to me until I updated the app. But I have only played one game against AI since, no duplicates.

  On which platform? I'm on iOS and I believe i have the latest version of the app.

I’m on iOS. Version 5.3.7

I found the update through the app in app settings. I had no alerts of an update through App Store.

  Yeah, that's the version I'm running as well - did get an update through the App Store about a week ago - but I'm still seeing duplicate records.

Welp. I played a 5/5 game as black against AI and won. Duplicate history for that game. The one lost game I have against AI is a single history game , not double. I’m wondering if wins only are duplicated. I’ll have to check it out later.

No issue with the board, captures or pawn promotion to Queen. I had the app view always showing the board with the time at the top….

Ditto on the duped game listings.  Minor thing I guess, but would be nice to have that fixed in future update (on latest IOS ver).  If someone does find a PDF for the manual let us know, I'd be surprised if one exists.

I emailed support asking when they anticipate porting this app to a windows version because frankly these old eyes do not need to be squinting at their .0004 font on their ios app when I can run the same thing full screen on a notebook and actually see it (not to mention it would make downloading the game afterwards just that much simpler).

The selection screen in the app is sketchy when you convert a pawn, your name with your time ticking away is stuck on top of your options for piece to promote to.

I kludged around it by switching to the board view where I could select a queen.

Question: how does something this obvious get missed by someone designing this app?

Not that apparently anyone is reading this, but nonetheless I'll provide an update.

1. No plans for a windows version of the app which is a pity, doesn't seemingly resonate why anyone would even want this.  Which I'll admit kind of made me laugh.

2. Reported the duped games in the text support chat in-app and heard back they are checking into it.

3. And since this chat session was already in play I mentioned the pawn promotion menu issue in the app as well.

Sure man.  If you use the email contact information off their website it's pretty hit or miss as the responses tend to be pretty generic.

So my working theory at the moment is the text support chat built into the app is the best way to filter input back to the team about issues.

So, anyone out there gotten pawn promotion to work?  Because every time I try it the menu to choose what piece to promote to can't be gotten to in order to make the choice, and it effectively ends the game because the board doesn't even recognize you moved the pawn to the 8th rank at that point.

I’ve only done it once on the screen with the board . It worked fine. I’ve been playing on that screen in case I knock a pieces over to see where they go to fix the position
