another idea-this is similar to guatamilla chess(sorry if i miss spelled it) but we could do double lairs of every piece for example. or we could do bug house except only the kings start on the bord and all the other pieces start out in hand.

I don't know what you mean by lairs. Please explain. In bughouse with all pieces except king starting in hand the first person who moves always wins.

ill show you a starting position.

2 more ideas-bug house with double chess starting position(see above post) and varient ratings(we could use the rating estimator on uschess.org)

Avatar of chessmaniac5

oh and on the king is only the piece that starts on board bug house we could say no drop checks.

idea- take me chess(the object is to lose all your pieces, king isnt specisl, you must take if you can) and also a list of games that need players.

I hope this doesn't offend you, but I think that the doubled up starting position would lead to a lot of boring play because the pieces are all blocked by pawns. There aren't really enough games so far for ratings to be anywhere near accurate. Even without drop checks white would always win if you played bughosue with all pieces in hand.

I'll start a game of suicide chess as soon as I can. It is similar but not quite the same as take me chess but more commonly played. In suicide chess the rules are just like take me but there are still checks and mate wins the game as well as losing all your pieces. We could play a seperate game which is take me chess. We don't really need a list of games pending sign ups because they are all sticky and players can always ask me to make a new game if they want to play.

Idea for "drop Chess"

Restrict where pieces can be placed like only on your back tree rows

i disagree about your opinion on double chess.this may be terrible for bughouse, however yon can capture on your first move.and i didnt realise games that need players were stickyed, though you nobody seems to do the 2nd crazyhouse game.

a really wierd varient idea-switch chess-if you take a piece a double of the piece you took (which changes colors) goes on the square your piece was.

I now have programs that can do glicko ratings. Given a list of games I could certainly do ratings for the two player variants. For the four player variants we would just need some way of translating the results into two player results.

Avatar of oinquarki

Yeah, I'll start games for all of those as soon as I finish the stuff that I need to do for the current games and my own online games.

ive got a realy good idea- atomic double chess where pawns are non resistant.

Back in May I bought Ministers Chess. Recently I got an email from the guy who made it asking me if I liked the game. I was ashamed to reply I had yet to play it, but I have yet to find anyone locally who likes chess variants (and I really bought it for the 9x9 board). But I thought maybe we could try it out here.

It's pretty simple: 9x9 board. Each side gets two queens (called ministers), one on either side of the king. To castle, kings move three over and the rook goes to the other side.

While all the other rules are like chess, the set up (RNBQKQBNR) means that both bishops are on the same color (the dark squares).

So what say, Oinquarki? Can whatever software you use to create the images handle this sort of game?

Avatar of oinquarki

Yeah, sure. I'll get right on it. And I don't use any special sort of software for the boards. I just draw them in PhotoFiltre.

P.S. All of the pieces have pawns in front of them, right?

Perfect! Thanks, Oinquarki.

whattabout chess where there are holes in the board, but you dont know where. So you have to deduce their location, and thus avouid them, by moving peices and seeing if they fall in. Eg, a rook moves from a1 to a7 and falls in a hole. The hole must therefore be somewhere between the two points. OR, you could combine this with blind chess.

Avatar of pawn_slayer666

Can a knight fall in a hole?

Avatar of oinquarki

How many holes should there be?

I think a time limit shoudl be imposed on games.  Nothing to strenuous, like 1 month.  That would help wrap up some of the dead games.
