This is a good idea, but it would be wise to see the retention rates of those who choose hyperbullet as their start compared to those who were interested in rapid.
Suggestion: Completely Lock Hyperbullet For New Players
Better yet why not just remove the time control? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm addicted to the adrenaline and dopamine that I get from playing hyperbullet, I can't go back monkaW
Absolutely. New players (I would say, under 50 games at least) should only be shown the standard Teams and FFA/Solo games, Rapid, (i.e. no Blitz, no Bullet, no Hyper, no variants, no antichess, etc.). Have told it here so many times. I'm pretty sure that plenty of players come, just click on ANY game, find themselves in something weird (some variant for happy few), or hyper, then lose in 10 sec. and never come back, saying everywhere that 4p chess is just b...sht.
It's counterproductive for the community and should be stopped. I am convinced that many potentially very good players came once and will never come back.

I'm one of these "inactive" players ig and the only reason I knew hyper exists is because of all the games going on...
It's fine, but would that ban of 50 games include unrated?
I don't see it as a ban, but merely a protection. We have to protect new innocent players from being bullied.
From my perspective, 4p chess is IN ITSELF already disturbing enough for a 2p player; he arrives, discovers a completely new configuration, and twice more figures to control, and 2,5 times more boxes to control, it's very tricky. If we add to this the challenge of new fancy figures, or time constraint, or new rules, etc., it becomes nonsense.
That's why I think the newbies should only see the classic standard 1/15 FFA games. No bullet, no hyper, no antichess, no variants...

Have you considered that a lover of 1/10 time control in standard chess goes to the four-player chess, or that a lover of crazy super-complex and weird variants embraces the site, while you with your ban are hiding the intriguing games from them and force them to play the standard position they do not like and in their subjective reasoning consider dumb?
Of course, plenty of cases may exist! You can add for instance:
- those who have observed 15151 games already and know what to expect,
- those who have followed some YouTube chain with presentations and adice,
- those who have a friend/brother/father who shows them,
etc.
BUT all such cases are much more marginal than the VAST MAJORITY of players who come; find themselves for instance in a 1 0 bullet, flag before even they realise what's on, and then never come back (and, even worse, speak about 4p chess later...).

I suggest seeking a compromise - i.e. so that new players are extremely strongly discouraged from playing variants with like two or three warnings, but that it is possible to play a variant or hyperbullet by getting through the warnings.
YES I AGREE, that could be a very good solution. Even ONE warning is enough. They just shouldn't be allowed to have a ONE-CLICK-YOU-DIE-FAST discovery.
You know how there's a warning before you joined a variant for the first time? Perhaps just make that warning bigger, link the fairy pieces forum and the gamerules in big bold letters, and then for bullet, force players to turn on premoves and give them a warning...!

Now that's a nice compromise.
Btw I'll still exclusively play 1+15 or 1+5 D for ffa and 1+15 for teams lol
radon please stop saying that many people ENJOY playing that and many people also beat you in rapid AND hyper

I sense unnecessary hostility towards a joke. Seems like you were just looking for any reason to insult me as the end of that comment is completely irrelevant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I see now, how could I have been so blind to the truth. Forgive me lord mouse clicker and may the latency be ever in your favour.
For example:
You need to play 20 rapid+blitz games and 50 bullet games
OR:
You need a rating of at least 1900 in any bullet category.
Seeing as 4PC will move to Variants, and the dev is working on that, I could wait, since it's not the most important thing to do.
This would make spotting alt accounts easier (and make them less common), and also stop the overflow of 1500s joining a 6 sec Solo game on their first game. (Which I'm sure will benefit everyone, not just the "mouse clickers")
Any objections or other ideas?
