Suggestion: Delay Time Controls
You know you can play 3|2 or 5|5, right? Or I am misunderstanding?
That is increment. Increment is when you gain a certain amount of seconds after each move. Delay is when: once it's your move, your clock will only start ticking after a certain amount of seconds.
Yeah I think it wouldn't be too hard to implement, but I don't know anything about coding; it may be much harder than expected. Also, they might just be more worried about ironing out the bugs in Live/Daily Chess before attempting something like this.
Can you please explain the difference between an increment in time and a delay, because when the time is stopped I don't see much of a difference. Because you can have an increment as long as you want in a custom game
delay basically freezes your clock for a certain amount of time. so let's say you have one second left. with increment, you can play quickly and gain even minutes left! but with delay you will NEVER, in that game, have more than 1 second. so increment is a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, slower time control then delay.
Also, having Swiss tournaments with a delay rather than an increment would shorten the round times. I have seen increment games go FOREVER, but it would be much faster with a delay.
I'm all for it! It is also practical for Americans to play training games as OTB it has delay more often than increment for us, unfortunately :/
I was just wondering, would it be at all possible to add delay time controls to chess.com?
(Note: I am referring to the US Delay system, where the clock waits for the amount of delay time every move before ticking down.)
