Suggestion for a new game mode. (secret queen)

Basically, secret queen works exactly the same as regular chess, but with one difference, At the start of a game each player chooses one of his/her pawns which then becomes a queen, but still looks like a pawn to the opponent. My friends and I have loads of fun playing this, so just wondering if it could be a possibility? Thanks, YKwaggasmit

if it comes into chess.com then add a feature for rating

maybe you could put it in beta, see if people enjoy it then decide if you want to take it off.

but tx for considering the idea.

this is kind of weird, and would probably be insanely complicated, but sounds fun

it is kinda hard to get used to, but when you do its hugely fun, trying to guess which pawn is the opponent's queen. The the is, if you sac like a bishop for 2 pawns then you could possibly take his queen for a bishop!

at what point can the pawn start moving like a queen? at any point?

Avatar of YKwagga

it can move like a queen at any point, but moving it as a queen will reveal its identity to your opponent, so making traditional pawn on square moves can keep your "secret" queen secret a bit longer.

You know its a queen as soon as you move it like a queen right?

agreed

Sounds like it would be fun! Would promotions work the same way?

EDIT: Could be painful if you placed the queen-pawn on a2 or a7, aiming at f7 or f2.

Avatar of YKwagga

yes, promotion is the same, and yes, that is why you need to be cautious. It's also where the fun comes in. But honestly, do you think they should add it? at least as a temporary test?

I also understand this, you noticed what pawn is the queen when the opponent moves this pawn like a queen.

It could be funny, even with other pieces e.g. a knight simulating be a pawn.
