Suggestion for Setup Chess

Currently in setup chess, the only limits to what pieces you can place (in standard setup chess, or any other setup chess variant) are which pieces the player can choose from, and the total number of points of material he’s allowed to have.

My suggestion is to add a third limit, where you can set a cap on each specific piece.

For example, each player can choose:

  • No more than 2 Queens
  • No more than 4 Rooks
  • No more than 4 Knights
  • No more than 4 Bishops
  • No more than 16 pawns
  • 1 King (mandatory)
  • Total piece value must not exceed 39 points (not including king

For variants using the Setup Chess rule, the creator of the variant could place these limits however high or low he wants.

You can already do this by setting the “setupcomplete” parameter to “yes”.

Oh really? Cool, I’ll check that out. Thanks!

Placing no more than 16 pawn is apparent, because pawn is only place on the second or third rank

Setup chess should be about mobster pieces wearing a wire to frame their mob friends.
