Giving the promoted queen three points to capture, would change the game. Right now you are sometimes not sure if you want to give up your knight for a queen, which is funny.
Suggestion: Promoted queens are worth 1 point, as long as they stay in the promotion square
If the value of my army is meant to remain constant, then my pawns at 1 point each are undervalued, because some of them will become queens during the game, and their mobility will be massively increased. I would expect their constant value to be at least 2.
On the other hand, if piece value is unrelated to piece mobility, then the original queen could have a value of 1 point, equal to the value of pawns, because ... why not?
But why should the value of my army remain constant? Is there a reason for that?
I don't know the reasoning behind the decision to give the promoted queens a value of only 1 point. It feels bad every time I manage to capture a reigning queen, and get only 1 point as a result. It also feels undeserving for my opponents to gain a petty point, when they capture my promoted queen. Maybe the reasoning is that a promoted queen is often captured immediately after promotion, usually by an enemy center pawn, and getting 9 points in that case seems imbalanced. For that reason I suggest that the promoted queens are worth 1 point as long as they stay in the promotion square, and obtain their full value after they are moved to a different square. It has also been argued that queens are already undervalued at 9 points, if we take piece mobility as a measurement.
