I think when you click on one of your Online Chess games, it would be awesome if your opponents last move actually moved on the screen, so you would instantly know what he had done.

How about access to messages/email and the forums?

you can ask here, but nothing will be added to the app in the next few months as we'll be focused on making the current features better :)

Since this is my first comment after seeing the app, I just have to say, AMAZING; so far it is exceeding my expectations, and making me very glad I upgraded my account to a paid memebership.

Suugestion:

When playing online chess, it would be helpful if the piece moved first and then the confirm move dialogue box appeared, as it can be difficult to know if you have selected the correct square prior to confirming the move and not enabling the confirm move feature could lead to unintended moves.

Sjolden , try going to the game list and then clicking on the game where you are trying to see the last move, you should be able to see it (sometimes it does not appear, I think, I am trying to recreate this to report it), if you are not seeing the moves highlighted go to your settings to enable the "Move Highlights" feature.

Great app so far!

A suggestion would be to include a help button on home page to explain what all the icons mean etc. It took me a little while to figure out that the magnifying glass meant I could analyze some moves before I made them and not actually that the program would analyze the game in terms of strength of play.

Also, maybe place the option to log out in a more natural/obvious place rather than within the setting menu when starting a new game against the computer.

And when looking at open challenges or creating them it would be good to see if game is rated or unrated or create rated/unrated game.

Also, I think you need a lighter grey background so that the captured black pieces stand out better.

And when starting a new online game it would be nice to search for a player rather than be limited to your friend list and the open challenges/create challenges.

When playing against computer but set up as human vs human it would be good if the board would rotate after each move or have that as an option. If you click the rotate button the computer automatically makes the move for the other human.

Will there be an eventual implementation to put the rating of your opponent up in-game? Also, an auto-refresh while in a particular game kind of like the website would be 100% awesome.

the social networking aspect i think would make it priceless. something along the lines of the facebook app, a pic etc. a little media coverage and it will snowball.

So a badge is the little number icon on the chess app itself that shows how many games it's your move in. And the sounds are the little sounds it makes when youre in the app and it becomes your move in one of the games. I have experienced both of these, but I think it would be even better if there was an alert system to push the badges to the chess.com app on your home screen and a sound when it becomes your move in a game, even when you are not in the app itself. I know a few other apps I own that use this feature, and it would let you know when it is your move in one of your games. This feature would be nice.

I suspect this is a work in progress anyway, but fwiw, I'd love to see the new data in Tactics Trainer (specifically, the score and new rating) made a little friendlier.

If I were unfamiliar with the web version, the '39' and (pitiful) '1325' might not mean much.  I'd suggest using the familiar format "Rating: 1352 (+27)" as each problem result.

(But again, I tend to suspect you had something like this in mind for the final cut anyway.)

Cheers!

erik

yep - on the list to fix :)

Application:  Chess.com - chess.ipa v.024

Type:  Suggestion

Functionality:  Chess Online

Description:  Possible Improvements to message feature and to menu for completed games

Suggestions:

  1. Allow message access for completed games (already reported as a bug)

  2. Subtle change to message icon when an opponent types a message in both active and finished games.
  3. Allow the ability to see if an opponet is online.

  4. Change menu for finished games in online chess if possible.
  • Allow ability to request a rematch
  • Allow ability to award a trophy (very low importance in the scheme of things i know)
  • Add as a friend (again keeping things simple in the app may be better but eventually trying to make the experience  as close as possible to being on a pc might be a wothy goal)

I personally think it could use a better icon but that's just my opinion.

The icon now has too many colors in it, and the dark colors don't seem to fit very well. Again, just my opinion :)

I like the Chess.com logo once you're inside the app is great though. Maybe we could use the background from inside the app in the icon rather than the black and white.

Application:  Chess.com - chess.ipa v.024

Type:  Suggestion

Functionality:  Videos

Description: If you answer a call while watching a video, when the call is finished you are brought to the home menu and must reaccess the video you were watching and then start from the beginning. Also Access to other functions while watching a video might be useful.

Suggestion:

This may be impossible, but perhaps while watching a video functions like answering a call or the menu for other chess app functions (online play, tactics trainer, etc.) could be allowed . If a video cannot be paused in this manner and reaccessed, perahps a place marker could be coded, allowing access to a particlular location on a video that was being watched. This could be a useful feature on chess.com in general.

Application:  Chess.com - chess.ipa v.024

Type:  Suggestion

Functionality:  play against a computer

I´d prefer to use a number for the level of the computer. The actual slicer is dificult to "remember" and to set "a bit harder"

:)  I like it too.  I'd still be curious to see if I'd like it better without the "chess.com" emblazoned across the icon, but hey, I guess it's good for brand recognition in the app store.

I'd suggest making 'game over' a little more explicit when playing vs. the computer.  An alert/pop-up with "Checkmate!  1-0" or "Draw!" would suffice.  Announcing the type of draw would be 'deluxe.'  :)

I suggest to add another Style to the engine: "random" in order to change each game the style of the computer

I decided this was a suggestion and not a bug, but it's a bit on the fence, I think.  There are some cases where you hit a button and you have to wait a few seconds for a server call - for instance, when you hit the >> button in Play Online and you are about to be returned to your game list.

The issue here is that there is no indication the system is 'working' or that the user has, in fact, successfully hit the button.  A progress 'spinner' is probably overkill here, but it would be GREAT if the button could visually indicate a change of state when it's actually been 'pressed.'

I've taught myself to be patient at these moments, but as a new user, I was more prone to just keep hitting the darn button..
