Team 54 or 5-4 Fighting?

Team 54 works for me. The fighting spirit is still there.

Honestly, if the invitation I got was from Team 54, I'd hit delete right away.  I saw 5-4 Fighting and it made me interested.  This the only group I actively play for and that's because of the "Fighting" aspect of the group.  Team 54 seems too generic. 

I think 5-4 Fighting attracts more members. But Team 54 has more of a meaning in what the group is for. My vote is Team 54.

Team 54 is to 5-4 Fighting as PoC is to power of chess?

I think everyone is wishing to win their respective matches, so we do not need to label ourselves as fighters. Conversely, I think Team 54 reminds me of "Car 54, where are you?" We could compromise and combine the 2 somehow. I like the premise that we fight things like oppression and racism and sexism and discrimination, but we play chess together, which exhibits our intentions.

How about "5-4 Checkmate" or "Fighting Team 54"

I've been listening but not yet convinced. The official score is 12 to 3 in favor of 5-4 Fighting. For a team of 600, 12 sounds more like a whisper than an outcry.

well tyrone, slowly but certainly surely, the masses say 5-4 fighting. but what say you? i can understand a change, because change is the only constant. when you change the name, it changes the nature of what has gone on previously. so, it's ok if you as our super admin make the decision for the group. we trust your judgment

And Team 54 sounds better by the way, That way you'll at least feel like a chessplayer when confronted with what team you're on :).

The votes have been casted and the polls are closed. A 60% vote was needed to overturn the name change and 137 votes were casted with 81 in favor of overturning the name change which = 59%. It's official, the name remains Team 54.

I had already made the change, but I was willing to see if there was strong protest or objection to the name change so I set the hurdle at 60%. However, because it was so close, we can do it again but I will not lower the hurdle.
