I don't think being a NATIVE Rhode Islander should be required. Not even a RI citizen? No problems, half your Mother's side is from here and you've been spending the last 20 summer's at "grammas" in "Wakefield?" GREAT! Whatever. It all sounds great to me, as long as one remains an upstanding group member. However, being a NATIVE RI guy myself, for me, it inherently DOES count for SOMETHING. No doubt. Maybe, outside the scope of this site, group, and the game of chess altogether. But there is absolutely a unique East Coast pride up and down the coast from Maine to New York for sure! :)Any other citizen of, say Boston, whether it be Southy, or say East Boston, New York City, and/or State, Even people from Augusta, Maine, are very proud people. I am! WE here in Southern New England, including our local "tri-state" area (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut) make up a nearly 25% of the US's ORIGINAL 13 colonies. Our history is impressive here in RI! We still hold THE OLDEST and LONGEST running 4th of July day parade IN THE COUNTRY, right here in Bristol, RI! People from ALL OVER the USA drive here just for this one historical event. Anyway, just wanted to put that out there. Thanks! So, getting invited can be ANYONE a member knows on the site? Just want to understand. Thanks! -BF/JS
I created Team Rhode Island to position RI as a force to be reckoned in the world of Chess.com. Membership consist of Rhode Islanders and friends; however, players that claim Rhode Island as it's location are automatically promoted to the administrative level. Group admins have special privileges that regular members of the group do not have, including:
I take care of the administrative functions highlighted in red so please leave those alone. Do not send an invitations for membership to someone you do not know, unless they are from Rhode Island.
Currently, our membership consist of about 50% Rhode Islanders. Is the percentage important? Should we set a percentage of how many Rhode Islanders the team should have? Personally, I don't think it's important; after all, how many Red Sox come from Boston. What do you guys think?
